Region of Karlovy Vary - Czech republic

It is situated on the West of the country. It is famous especially by its balneology.

Hot and cold  springs are welling up from the earth for thousand of years. Let´s name three well-known and biggest spas – there are Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad) and Františkovy Lázně (Franzensbad).

These spas are completing the other spas, not so famous, but regarding medical treatment are not on lowel level.

To the region-symbols belong not only the mineral waters, colonnades, mineral springs and very popular spa-wafers, but also the glass production, china production and coal-mining in the area of Sokolov. In Karlovy Vary you find the smallest international aeroport in Czech Republic.

Except of spa travel activity offers this region sufficient number of cultural programms, number of social actions as for instance the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary – visited by many actors and producers of all the world. The region  can offer many historical monuments (ruins and castles, natural resources, reservations, parks, and wonderful nature landscape). There are many opportunities to sports activities, especially for the fans of golf and water sports.

In summer the tourists are seting out for having a rest to the forests and mountains – on a cycle or on foot. The whole region is full of marked touristic paths and cyclopaths, which show the visitors round  the attractive places of historical and natural science character.

In winter you can run through the landscape on skiies along the arranged ways or you can visit some of mountain centres of descending skiing and get acquaintance with the biggest point of Krušné hory (Ore Mountains) – Klínovec (1243 m).
