CZ, Ore Mountains: Cínovec – On the Krušnohorská Way
Published: 28.1.2021
Cross-country skiing is the number one winter activity this year due to the closure of downhill skiing and snowboarding centers. However, the popular Jizera Mountains are already bursting, especially on weekends at the seams. But where else to go for a nice run? Ore Mountains, for example, are offered.

Our destination was the mountain settlement Cínovec in the Ore Mountains. The settlement is part of the nearby town of Dubí and got its name after earlier tin mining. It lies almost on the border with Germany. There are several parking lots, so you can find a place here at almost any time of day for a fee of CZK 50-70. At several nearby petrol stations, you can still have a snack and bounce back.

Right at the bus stop Dubí, Cínovec, České pomezí there is an entrance to the Krušnohorská ski highway. It leads around the mountain Cínovec, the top of which rises at a height of 877 meters above sea level. Not far behind it is the signpost Cínovecké slatě - CZ / D, where every cross-country skier can choose whether he wants to continue to the German side of the Ore Mountains or rather stay in the Czech Republic. At the same time, you will also find the dispensing window of the Krušnohorský Dvůr restaurant.

There are not so many people here as in the Jizerské Mountains, however, in the vicinity of parking lots and restaurants it is always better to mentally prepare for larger crowds. In addition to cross-country skiers, the highway is also widely sought after by families with sledding children and cyclists on fat bikes, which unfortunately significantly disrupts the cross-country ski trail. It is also necessary to take into account that the routes here are not groomed as regularly as with snowmobiles, as is the case in the more well-known cross-country ski areas. This fact can be manifested especially in freshly fallen snow, when it is guaranteed more appropriate to go for classic cross-country skiing than for skate. However, experienced and trained cross-country skiers can handle any conditions.
