Gigantic cross in open air and the belts of stones, put in concrete. The feelings, at view on this mysterious place, not far from Cidlina river at the end of the village, are different. You have the reason for pensiveness and warm when the sun shines, or the clouds cover the sky, in that case you feel some black cloud. Mystical place

A person, who comes here by chance is asking: “What is it? What does it mean?“. It is not a church (you can find thousand of them all over the country), it is nothing special to be admired, and, despite this fact, this place is too attractive. The writing is composed from mosaics, and the group of statues could allude to a fact what happened on this place hundreds of years ago.

Ancient but rather bloody history

Strategic position, hidden inside Libice fresh green fields, near to the confluence of Labe with Cidlina-river, was chosen, and inhabitated by Slavník Parentage later. Kosmas Chronicle mentions Libice, for the first time, in connection with death of Prince Slavník in 981. According to the legend, St.Adalbert, Bishop, was born in Libice. His brother Sobeslav inhabitated this place as well. However, he incited, with his unskilled foreign policy, Přemysl Parentage against him. Later, they completely massacred the whole Slavník Parentage. Except of them, also Vršovec Parentage found their death there. Prince Svatopluk proved that this Parentage was killed. After 1130, nobody from nobles moved into former Libice Palace. Later, Libice became servitude community only.

Except Slavník Piece of Ground Monument, you can find two churches in the community - the Evangelical and St.Ethelbert Church. And just this church belongs to past time period, when Libice was inhabitated by Slavník Parentage.

You reach Libice village comfortably from Poděbrady and confluence of Elbe and Cidlina-rivers. It is an ideal walk, trek for in-line skaters or bicycle. It is worth to visit this place!
