CZ, Decin– Royal Town on the Confluence of the Elbe and Ploucnice Rivers – VIDEO
Published: 31.5.2023
Just a few kilometers before the Elbe water leaves the Czech Republic, it flows past the majestic Decin Castle. The town itself and its surroundings offer plenty of attractions to visit, in addition to the castle and the Rose Garden, the Labské pískovce PLA and the nearby Bohemian Switzerland.
In the 13th century King Přemysl Otakar II built a gothic stone castle on the promontory above the Elbe to protect the path around the Elbe from Saxony, and founded the royal town of Děčín. The first written mention of the town dates back to 1283.
We already wrote about the castle itself, but you shouldn't miss it. It was built by rebuilding a Gothic castle in the 18th century when the fortress status of the city was abolished. Thanks to its position on the top of the rock it is visible from afar and especially from the Elbe it has a really majestic impression.
On the way to the chateau, the Dlouhá jízda street, which was built into the rock by the builders, will catch your eye at first sight. One of the biggest attractions, however, is the gardens on both sides - whether the Rose Garden in the north or the terraced garden and the garden Chinese pavilion with a fountain in the south. There are several parks, a herb garden and a small vineyard.
Unique is also the short rock tunnel, which continues the chain bridge over the Mill Mill. In the courtyard of the castle you will see, among other things, a beautiful memorable oak and a slightly less noticeable thousand.
In addition to the castle, you can also visit the Church of St. Wenceslas and Blazej and the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross next to the Long Ride. Also worth mentioning is the chateau in Bynov or the unmistakable Pastýřská stěna restaurant with a beautiful view opposite Děčín Chateau. There is also a small zoo nearby Pastýřské Walls.
Directly in the city of Děčín, you will also find several beautiful natural locations, whether it is the Děčínský Sněžník Massif or the Elbe Canyon. We also recommend going to the Velký Chlum observation tower, where you can enjoy a wide view not only of Děčín and the Elbe, but also of the České Středohoří mountains, Českosaské Švýcarsko and the Ore Mountains.
We believe that the city and its surroundings offer plenty of entertainment, attractions and nature for a day long trip.
Who ever have gone along Elbe to Germany certainly noted beautiful landscape along the river banks. Similar attributes belong to the town of Decin. The town is located on the meeting of the Elbe and Ploucnice rivers. On a cliff above the point where the two rivers meet, there is Decin Chateau, local landmark.
A small Ore Mountains village with only a hundred inhabitants lies on the very border with Germany. The local abandoned border crossing is located directly in Český Jiřetín and connects the village with the German settlement Deutschgeorgenthal, which belongs to the village Neuhausen.
A mere kilometer from the famous settlement of Hejnice in the Jizera mountains, there is another famous site - Libverda spa. Composer Carl Maria von Weber found his inspiration to write the opera of Der Freischuetz.
As summer approaches, more and more of us set out on new experiences during our free days. The quarantine is gradually being released, offering more and more opportunities to spend time. This weekend we will look at Nové Město pod Smrkem, which is located in the Liberec region. The city lies in the Jizera Mountains, almost on the border with Poland. There are historic churches, a museum and a mausoleum. However, tourists usually come here for more sporting activities. And so it is with us.
Decin – this city is a connection of history and natural beauties of Bohemian Switzerland. Last week, we already talked about Decinsky Cahteau. Today we will talk about Decin, Pin Garden, which is part of the chateau and that offers amazing views over the city and beautiful surrounding nature.
This small village in the Decin region has always treated its visitors well. Jetrichovice belongs to one of the centers of the National Park Czech Switzerland Švýcarsko and the nearby Jetrichovice walls attract all types of visitors – families with small children or experienced climbers alike
If you go on a trip to the Czech Switzerland National Park, you should definitely miss one of the most popular parts - the gorge of Kamenice River near Hrensko, where you can also enjoy riding on a boat and many great rock formations.
