River description:
Novohradka river is navigable – in its section from Hrochův Týnec – all year round. However, this section is not too popular. We can use the upper flow to the navigation, provided the water stand on Krouna or Žejbro is sufficient, so it is the sufficient water stand also in Novohradka. The navigation along its upper section follows quite quickly, in lower section may stop us several overgrown places.
The river sources in Svitavy Highlands in southeastern direction of Proseč, after, it flows mostly to the west. It mouths to Chrudimka river from its right side. Its river-basin makes 472 km². In spite to the fact that the upper flow has rather big slope, the river-bed is clayed and its stream is quick. Small rapids are seldom. Anyway many weirs are better to be watched and checked before driving, it is true that at certain water-level ccould be passable. The river flows through an open countryside, the forests are missing and becomes plain meadow river on its central flow, which turns and river- bed is overgrown. In 1997, also Novohradka suffered from floodings. So, it could happen that the river-bed is more wide on some places, and, on the contrary, is more overgrown on certain places. You have to calculate with damaged weirs and new phenomena on the river.
