River Orava - Czech republic
This river is created by confluence of Biela and Čierna Orava (White and Black Orava).
SK, Orava: Dolný Kubín – A Town of Poetic Beauty III
A week ago, we ended our walk through Dolný Kubín in the so-called Kohútový sad. Let's continue to the pedestrian zone of the historic center, which decorates the beautiful Hviezdoslav Square. It consists of a terraced development of colorful burgher houses used as retail space and for the purposes of restaurants or offices.
The center line of the square is filled with an artistically redesigned fountain, a liberation monument and smaller green areas. There is also a fountain with drinking water, lots of benches and fun elements for exercise. The dominant feature is the Baroque building of the County House from the end of the 17th century, which has served as the seat of the Orava Gallery since 1971, or the three-nave neo-Gothic evangelical church of the Augsburg faith from 1894.
Among these monuments is the Dějatelů Park, where statues, reliefs and memorial plaques of important personalities are located. The building of the former Slávia Hotel, currently the Zmeškal House of Music in the lower part of the square, is also remarkable. It was built by the Orava estate and for many years served as the cultural center of the Dolnokubín amateur theater.
In the upper part of the square you will come across the building of the Čaplovič Library, which is one of the most valuable historical libraries in Slovakia. It also includes the truly magnificent Literary Museum of P. O. Hviezdoslav. Opposite the library is a three-meter statue of Hviezdoslav, who is one of the most important realistic, lyrical-epic authors of Slovak literature by Franň Štefunek, as well as the house in which he lived during his stay in Dolný Kubín.
A few meters from the library stands the Jewish synagogue from 1901, which, however, no longer serves its purpose. At present, it is the Choč cinema. Of the Jewish monuments, the cemetery near the center in the direction of Kuzmínovo and the Exhibition of Jewish Culture located in the premises of the Municipal Cultural Center have been preserved.
At the upper end of Hviezdoslav Square is the monumental blue building of the grammar school and behind it the equally nice town hall, which is the seat of the Municipal Office. In front of the office, they planted the Lípa confluence of the world, which is flooded from various rivers, seas and streams of the world, from where water will be brought by locals as well as representatives of partner and other towns and villages.
With a view of the mighty peak of Choč in the background, we end our journey, but only for a few days, as we still have our last walk through this exceptional Orava town.

Today we will end our walk around Dolný Kubín with a visit to monuments, attractions or sports grounds located just a short distance from the historic center. From the Town Hall, we headed back to Kohútový sady, where, in addition to a parking lot with a pleasant café, there is also an eye-catching rectory building with a garden.
Last week we visited the quiant village of Lestiny. The village boasts a UNESCO sight. However, today we move about one kilometer to Vysny Kubin, a village in Orava region.
This year's winter offers us wonderful weather and plenty of snow. That is why today we invite you for a winter hiking trip to the second highest peak of Oravská Magura - Kubínská hoľa (1,346 m above sea level), which is a popular destination for all the highest winter sports.
This time we will go to Orava, more precisely to the district town of Dolný Kubín. The town of almost 20,000 is set in the valley of the river Orava and is surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Orava Highlands and Orava Magura. The peaks of Malá Fatra or Chočské vrchy also stand out in the background.
Last week we briefly imagined the history of Dolní Kubín and today we will go for a walk through its alleys, squares and interesting nooks. We start at Náměstí Svobody, which is surrounded by three architecturally monumental buildings.
Do you belong among winter sports lovers? Also, you can not imagine a winter holiday without a good snow and well-maintained slopes? Although, I have to admit that in recent years we go with a group on skiing for one week. Usually, we go abroad, but the Slovak mountains, we did not forgot about. My favorite places have been for years the Kysuce and Orava regions.
We conclude our tour in Orava in Jasenova village which is situated in a small basin close to Vysny Kubin. Among its buildings you can get glimpses of distant past as you may find here some unique historic landmarks. We are going to tell you more about them on the following lines.
The ski season is on and this year’s winter is not only rich on snow but also many beautiful sunny days. So as soon as we had a free weekend we moved off to nature at least for few days. Our steps led to Orava, one of the most beautiful regions in Slovakia.
Autumn is the most colorful season of the year and the best for tourism. You need to count on early sunsets but the sun is not so hot. Therefore, we decided to go up into the mountains.
After 40 years, the folk song and music culture of the distinctive North Slovak region comes to life, in the form of a supplemented release of the legendary album Orava.
