SK, Orava: Dolný Kubín – ATown of Poetic Beauty IV
Published: 3.10.2021
Today we will end our walk around Dolný Kubín with a visit to monuments, attractions or sports grounds located just a short distance from the historic center. From the Town Hall, we headed back to Kohútový sady, where, in addition to a parking lot with a pleasant café, there is also an eye-catching rectory building with a garden.

A short distance behind it, the Jasenovsky brook intersects, near which stands a two-storey, handicraft, originally colored Florin's house (Zaunerovská kúria). This gem of folk architecture is part of the Orava Museum of P. O. Hviezdoslav and offers a view of the memorial room of the poet, publicist, diplomat and enlightenment worker Theodor H. Florin, as well as short-term exhibitions.

A few tens of meters from the museum exposition towards the river Orava, there is a relatively large wooden hut, built in the style of traditional Orava architecture, offering accommodation and gastronomic specialties. It also includes the Fairytale Village, which will enchant not only children. You will see the House on a Walking Foot, the House of Mother and Kubka, Kremienka and Chocholúšik, The Hobbit, the tower, the mill, as well as Gingerbread Cottage.

Behind the Fairytale Village there are sports grounds, a bicycle signpost and a slightly adrenaline blue suspension bridge, also called a swing bridge. It is intended only for pedestrians, cyclists and skaters, who can enjoy both embankments of the Orava River through it.

After crossing the swaying footbridge, we were attracted by perfectly marked bike paths, hiking trails and in the background an architecturally interesting construction of the winter stadium. Behind it was a football pitch and a modern water park offering a swimming pool, a relaxation pool and a sauna world.

Gradually, we got through the housing development with beautifully landscaped surroundings to the Colonnade Bridge or. to the Freedom Square, where we started our walk. The small town of Dolnoorava region enchanted us with its compactness, picturesqueness and atmosphere, and we will definitely be happy to return here.

Dolný Kubín is also an ideal starting point for trips, for example to the medieval Orava Castle, the Martin Kukučín Memorial House, or the wooden articular evangelical church from 1688 in Leštiny, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
