CZ, Doubravník – Small Town with Unique Church and History – VIDEO
Published: 28.4.2020
Not far from Pernštejn Castle, along the Svratka River, lies the town of Doubravník. At first glance, you will be fascinated by the majestic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and there is plenty to discover in the area. Let's go to Doubravník together now.
Doubravník is probably one of the oldest villages in Moravia. The oldest surviving document that mentions it dates from 1208, it is also the oldest document stored in the archives of the city of Brno.
The village used to be a monastery of the Augustinian sisters, today in its place you will find the majestic Gothic-Renaissance Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The Pernštejns, the owners of the local estate and the nearby Pernštejn Castle, had it built as their burial ground. The church was built between 1535 and 1557, most of the interior decoration dates from the late Baroque period at the end of the 18th century. On the main altar, notice the master canvas of the Finding of the Holy Cross by the Austrian painter Franz Anton Maulbertsch.
Between 1859 and 1867, Count Vladimír Mitrovský had a neo-Gothic tomb added to the church, where he moved the remains of his ancestors.
An important monument is also the Doubravnice square as a whole and some houses that are adjacent to it. You will definitely not miss the building of the former school from the first half of the 18th century, where the municipal office and information center are located today.
On Bozinka nad Doubravníkem Hill, there stands an inconspicuous but beautiful chapel of St. Mary Magdalene. It was built in the second half of the 17th century and restored in 1897. Because it stands alone on a hill, away from all other buildings, the whole place gives a very romantic impression, which unfortunately only slightly spoils the small transmitter.
I recommend combining a trip to Doubravník with a visit to Pernštejn Castle. You can either make a circuit along the Pernštejn nature trail, or just walk along the Svratka and along the red tourist sign and from Pernštejn then return to the train to the village Nedvědice. Alternatively, you can take a walk downstream to the village of Borač and return along the green sign over the hills above the river.
Once we introduced you the new interactive exhibition in the Moravian Karst Nature House we move bit further. Today we talk about our starting locality which is called Rocky Mill. This one is unique for many reasons.
The historic town of Tišnov is known to most people in connection with the famous monastery of Porta Coeli in the neighboring Předklášteří. But Tišnov itself is definitely worth a visit, let's go to it together now.
The Holedná game reserve is absolutely exceptional, because not only children but also adults have the opportunity to see and admire the life of wildlife with their own eyes, as it is a purpose-built hunting facility used for professional breeding of mouflon and fallow deer on an area of 327 ha. Although the game reserve is thoroughly fenced on all sides so that the animals do not escape, the whole area looks very large and unrestrained.
Northwest of Brno, an unusual rock formation, the Malhostovická Pecka, rises from the flat landscape around Malhostovice. In the sunny habitats, the endangered large-flowered passerine grows here, which offers a wonderful spectacle in the spring.
Although it is a small village, it offers quite a lot of tourist attractions and destinations. The picturesque village of Petrov boasts the Plže Nature Reserve, where you will find unusual wine cellars. Those who like wine will certainly not despise this village, because the area of the local cellars has a really magical atmosphere. The famous Baťa canal also flows through the village, where there is a lot of traffic in the summer months. There are plenty of bike paths in the area, so this area is also ideal for sports lovers.
Northwest of Brno, a short distance from Tišnov, lies the town of Lomnice in a picturesque valley. The local baroque church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary attracts visitors from a distance, and the local chateau or the former Jewish quarter and synagogue are also worth seeing. Let's go to Lomnice together.
The Bukovanský mill complex is located in the very center of Slovácko in southern Moravia, between the villages of Bukovany and Ostrovánky. The mill complex offers an untraditional experience in a rustic Slovácko style. Around it you will find a restaurant offering typical regional and old Czech cuisine, as well as accommodation in the style of Slovácko cottages, where you can spend a pleasant stay. A visit to the Bukovanský mill is guaranteed to enchant you.
On the territory of the South Moravian village Mikulčice there is one of the most important archeological sites in the Czech Republic, which is undoubtedly related to the early history of our state. Hradiště belonged to the important fortifications of the settlements of Great Moravia and was one of the important centers of power and spirituality. Near Slovanské hradiště there is also a cycle path along the Morava River and a new bridge has been built there, which leads directly to the Slovak side.
We will end our series from the surroundings of Bobrůvka and Loučka on the ruins of the Košíkov guard castle. We will be happy to recommend a trip to it to all lovers of nature and a quiet trip.
The valley of the Bobrůvka and Loučka rivers offers many romantic nooks and Trenckova gorge near the village of Drahonín certainly belongs among them. Let's go on a slightly adventurous trip over rocks and gorges to a rock gorge with an interesting history.
Near Bystřice nad Pernštejnem on the eastern edge of the Vysočina region, today we will visit the picturesque landscape around the Bobrůvka and Libochovka rivers. Ruins, ponds and majestic rocks await us.
The Moravian Karst is undoubtedly the most beautiful area in the Czech Republic. Blansko, a town offering many historical, cultural, nature, and other sights, is located right there. It is also an ideal destination for a trip for couple of days for its great life in culture and perfect sport opportunities.
Spring is on and the tourist season is underway. Go to nature, culture and do some sightseeing. There are countless of them in the Czech Republic and today you can see Pernštejn Castle with us.
Near the village of Nedvědice stands one of our most impressive Gothic castles, in the Middle Ages the main seat of the influential lords of Pernštejn. Let's go to it together and take a look at the completed generous reconstruction of its gardens.
Today we look again into the beautiful city in the heart of beautiful nature. Yes, we talk about Blansko, the entrance to the Moravian Karst. But it is not only that. It is a place of fascinating sights we take look at on the following lines.
Once we visited Blansko chateau and St Martin church we set off to a wooden structure. We spotted it when we observed the town. This structure is a church which actually doesn’t fit in the city’s architecture.
Upon seeing the marvels of architecture in Blansko – the wooden church, chateau, Jezek’s bridge – today our goal are not only some other sghts. We also talk about the social life in the city.
When I have learned recently that Lonely Planet declared Brno the least interesting city in the Czech Republic I couldn’t understand. Then I realized that it was good they said it after all. Had crowds of tourists been going there every day as they go to Prague it would soon loose its magic. Brno is a city of universities, fun, culture and many small, lovely places. The turning clock in the shape of a male genitalia from which a small glass ball falls out every hour. Smoking road signs are really to be found only here… New York Times was much more smarter. They put Brno on the list of 52 places where to go in 2016!
As was told in the first part, now you know why to go to Brno. You know where to start your exploration of the historical district and where to have lunch. What is next? We are going to spend some moments on Svoboda square. There is a mysterious astronomical clock. We cant avoit a visit to Spilberk castle, Villa Tugendhat (under UNESCO) and a functionalist borough around it. Of course, we are going to have a taste of the night life, great beer or wine, and we are going to see some glimpses of local students ’life. So let’s get started!
It seems that this year we won't visit the sea, but it does not matter at all, because our country offers a lot of beautiful places for vacation. Today we will take you to the capital of Moravia and look into history. We will talk about Špilberk Castle.
