CZ, Choceň – A Crossroad in the Tichá Orlice River Valley – VIDEO
Published: 5.11.2019
Not far from Ústí nad Orlicí, there lies inconspicuous town of Choceň. Immediately on its edge begins the beautiful valley of the Tichá Orlice river, a visit of which is definitely worth it, especially in autumn. Let's go there together!
Choceň was never one of the most important places in the region - it was overshadowed by nearby Litomyšl, for example. In the second half of the 19th century, however, the city became an important railway junction. In 1845, the Prague – Olomouc line was opened, and 30 years later the line to Broumov was connected to it in Chocen. In the 1980s, the local railway to Litomyšl was opened. Thanks to this, a number of industrial enterprises have gradually opened up here. And an important traffic junction is still today.
You can visit the local small chateau on the bank of Tichá Orlice, which gained its present appearance thanks to Prince Rudolf Kinský in the first half of the 19th century. The Baroque Church of St Francis of Seraphim and Tyrš Square with Plague Column and Town Hall are also worth a visit.
However, as we have already mentioned, the surrounding countryside is worth a trip. Choceň will serve as a great starting point for hiking and cycling expeditions both upstream and downstream of Tichá Orlice.
Just outside the city, for example, there are up to 35 meters high marl rocks and towers above the river. Thanks to several views in the Peliny Nature Reserve, you will be able to enjoy a beautiful view of the valley, along the way you will find the remains of the medieval Vranov hillfort.
Further downstream you will reach the valley of Brandýs nad Orlicí, where you can visit the deep Devil's Gorge, where you will be guided by the green hiking trail. Or follow the blue trail to the next lookout point at the ruins of Brandys Castle.
On the other hand, you can set out from Choceň either along the nature trail Dívčí doly, or on the easy cycling route around the endless folds of the river to Týniště nad Orlicí.
The valley of Tichá Orlice is one of the most beautiful corners of our country and the local unique nature certainly deserves attention. Enjoy your trip!
When we say Pardubice, most of us immediately think of gingerbread. Delicious honey pastries are so inseparably connected with Pardubice that they have practically become their symbol. We have visited this statutory city several times, but we are happy to return here, because it always surprises us with something.
The castle in picturesque Litomyšl is one of the unique examples of Italian Renaissance architecture in the countryside beyond the Alps. Today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations and we will go to it together.
Near the former border of Bohemia and Moravia lies the town of Litomyšl, which is one of the most picturesque in the Czech Republic. Thanks to the fact that several important personalities were born or stayed here, many cultural events and festivals continue their tradition. Let's go to Litomyšl together.
I love Pardubice. Hence, I would like to give you some tips where to go. I love to walk around Pardubice chateau. This beautiful Renaissance-style structure was listed in the list of significant Bohemian cultural landmarks in 2010.
Last week we started with our tour around Olomouc. We briefly told you about its history. The point of start was Horni square. The Holy Trinity column, and the town hall with a tower belong to its main landmarks.
Upon seeing Dolni and Zerotinovo squares, we walked down several streets and found ourselves on Horni square again. Church of St Moritz is located near to it.
We left Republiky sqaure for St Wenceslas Cathedral situated on Wenceslas square. The cathedral houses Roman Catholic archdiocesis of Olomouc. The grandiose Romanesque/Gothic structure has some Baroque features and rich decoration of sculptures. It is true jaded gem of the city.
Before the inhabitants of Hradec Kralove decide go to see nature beyond their city they should explore some of their boroughs. Novy Hradec Kralove offers everything what town people look for in the Orlice and Krkonose mountains – clean nature, forests, ponds, trails for bikers. There are also trails for people on wheelchair.
