River description:

The river Úhlava flows to the north and in Pilsen it mouth to Radbuza. Its river basin makes 919 km².  In its upper section – above Nýrsko dam/basin – the river has a torrential character. It flows through narrow afforested valley with  great slope. When there is enough water, so some navigable section could be found. After the dam the river flows through nice valley, where the forests on banks are rare and the river is edged by meadows and fields. The river bed is becoming wider (4-6 m) and the river receives a character of small river. Some weirs are – after investigation in advance – passable. As to tributaries – you can descend Chodská Úhlava and Drnový potok (brook). Úhlava river is – in its upper section – navigable only  provided a water is let out from the dam. It happens, with the exception of dry summer, quite often, if it is a minimal passage. The river has more water in spring or after heavy rains. You can estimate it according to water index in Štěnovice, the water level of 50 cm could be sufficient (for navigation from the town of Přeštice) and 60 cm for its upper section. Navigation is possible at water index of 40 cm from Nýrsko. On the section from Nýrsko-Dam up to Bystřice it it taken place (by Pilsen watermen) very popular watermen event – each year at the beginning of September. The sufficient water- passage  is secured, this can be used for the further navigation. However, you can take into consideration, that the water streams slower as it makes the boat.
