CZ: Svihov Water Castle

Its unique defense mechanism allowed it to quickly flood moats around the castle and also turn dirt into mud. The castle drained water from the Uhlava and therefore Svihov became basically impenetrable fortress. Let’s see this unique and greatly designed structure, well at least what has remained of it. Yet it is still awesome.

Přeštice will probably forever be associated with the Přeštice pig, which was bred here, but the history of the town on the river Úhlava dates back to St. Adalbert. It is also an ideal starting point for trips around the southern Pilsen region.

The town of Pilsen is situated in the region of the same name. It was established in 1295, in conformity with the order of Bohemain King Wenceslas II. It is placed on confluence of rivers of Radbuza, Mže, Úhlava and Úslava. Since its foundation, the town is very important trade centre, as it was situated along frequented way crossings from Nurenberg to Regensburg.
