No matter what the current weather is, Kampa and Charles Bridge are still overflowed with tourists. Including the day when the temperature fell to minus 3 degrees and it was occasionally snowing. This place hidden under the Charles Bridge offers thousands of different views. Kampa is simply beautiful in every season of year.
An artificial island that goes along Čertovka, from the Charles Bridge to Smíchov, was always a place where artists were looking for some inspiration and maybe some of lost energy while being close to Vltavy.
Malá Strana hides lots of mysteries and perhaps there is no place more beautiful to kids for play their games. The Kampapark that is right under the Charles Bridge is also beloved by their parents, not for its exceptional monkey bars and slides, but simply for enchanting atmosphere of the place.
The Mills of Kampa
One of Kampas dominant constructions is a wooden mill wheel of Velkopřevorský Mill that restlessly and deliberately spins at Čertovka. It is the wheel of the last renaissance mill built in the 16th century. There are small wooden steam engine boats cruising on Vltava. Other ships hardly can pass under low bridges, which are decorated with omnipresent “lock of love” so hated by preservationists.
Unfortunately, barkers like those on the Wenceslas Square try to get you on a ride on a steamboat, or a “boat trip” if you will. However, tourists love boat trips on Vltava so any persuasion is unnecessary. Before a steamer arrives people try to kill some time by a stand that has surprisingly very reasonable prices. A cup of mulled wine at Kampa costs only 40 crowns.
The Velkopřevorský Mill is however, not the only mill at Kampa. Famous Sova’s Mills built just on the River Vltava are one of the most visited places of this fabulous island. The Kampa Museum has its residence there since 2001. But you would be disappointed if you looked for some typical mill wheel. The family of bakers of František Odkolek that bought the mill from Václav Sova of Liboslav had rebuilt the original mill in a neo-Gothic style and the romance of the wooden mill wheel was replaced with effective steam powered wheel.
The Werich’s Villa and Meda Mládková’s Success
The Werich’s Villa and its sad history have also played their part in the story of Kampa. Long argues what to do with a house where Jan Werich or, for example, Vladimír Holan, a poet lived are, as it seems, over. The officials of Prague 1 district eventually had made an agreement of cooperation with Meda Mládková, an arts benefactor. The city of Prague will pay the renovation estimated costs of which are around 25 million CZK and Mládková’s foundation will furnish the villa with exhibitions and will administrate the museum. However, the foundation won’t pay any rent. Jan Werich lived in the villa with his family since 1945.
The Werich’s Villa is also related to Jan Dobrovský, his statue stands in front of the building, or with Zdeněk Wirth, a scientists and a historian. To them the future exhibitions should be devoted. Meda Mládková’s Foundation administers the villa since 2008 however, only the exterior of the building has been renovated since the floods of 2002 when Kampa was flooded.
During a walk through the park it is evident it needs a renovation too. Even fresh snow couldn’t hide unrepaired brick walls going along a part of islands borderline. In the spring there should be more statues that would enlarge the group of six statues that are currently there. It should be in a similar style to David Černý’s statues of babies .

This time we take a walk into the streets of Prague. We will omit the main landmarks on purpose. Our goal is to see places with for distinct atmosphere of their own, places that you will love.
No visitor to Prague should not miss a tour of the Jewish city, respectively sights which remain there. It is the most mysterious and beautiful of what you can see in this city. And not just here. The significance of the Old Jewish Cemetery far exceeds Prague and Bohemia since it is the oldest and best preserved Jewish cemetery in Europe!
The Chuchelský háj nature trail passes through the nature reserve above Prague's Chuchle, which connects to the Barrandovské skály nature trail. It will take you along a yellow tourist and at the same time cycling asphalt road, mostly through deciduous vegetation from Velká to Malá Chuchle, or vice versa. The biggest attraction, especially for children, is the local zoo.
In times when we can't go exploring other cultures, it may come in handy to look around. We realize that even in the past, people have had to deal with the pitfalls of diseases that have greatly affected the running of society. Evidence of this are the monuments expressing gratitude. One of these monuments, which we may have perceived in recent years only as meeting points, are the plague columns.
In Jerusalem street, an inconspicuous street from Jindrisska tower in Prague, is hiding a gem among Prague's buildings - the Jerusalem or als the Jubilee Synagogue. Witnesses may know it as the Great Synagogue.
Prague's Charles Bridge is after the Písek one, the second oldest stone bridge in the Czech Republic. The unique monument registered on UNESCO World Heritage List will attract thousands of tourists daily. The atmosphere of love foreigners and fellow citizens are proud of this gem.

Who would have thought that before the great flood in 2002 and a few years later would become one of Prague's most luxurious neighborhoods? Today, there is are great cafes, bistors and restaurants one next to another. The houses have been beautifully repaired and the streets are always full of life. You will easily think that you walk along some beautiful boulevard in France.
Nowadays, there are no buildings in the Jewish quarter of Prague, except for the synagogues and the mysterious Old Jewish Cemetery about which we wrote the last time-. Synagogues belong to the orthodox Prague Jewish community, some of them feature exhibits from the Jewish Museum which you may view as ordinary visitors.
Jewish quarter should be a mandatory stop for tourists as well as for locals. Many Praguers pass it with their eyes closed forgetting, perhaps even realizing it, about priceless historic part of the city.
Few weeks ago we have visited the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague. During our walks in streets of hundred towers, visits to various museums and landmarks or tasting good wine we decided to visit a water world. It’s a relative new sight in the beautiful metropolis.
Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and its largest city. I was born there and I have been living there ever since. Prague covers the area of 496 square kilometers and there live more than 1,2 million people. Prague is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
You can’t miss the church on Bílenecké Square in Prague Dolní Chabry. This small Romanesque building has a magic of its own and everyone who knows little bit about it is attracted to it like a magnet.
Petřín Tower. Prague´s copy of the Eiffel Tower every good Czech knows. The French make the fun of it, for many Praguers Petřín Tower is a purebred building with its own story, not imitation.
This time we go to the capital of the Czech Republic to make a beautiful walk to see the most popular tourist attractions which would give us another perspectives on the life on the city on the Vltava River.
There is much interesting about the capital of the Czech Republic. There are many landmarks and historical streets. The history truly walked through the city. There is, however, another perspective from which you can see Prague. Vltava boat cruises are available all year round. On every cruise there is an interesting lecture on landmarks including information you perhaps haven’t heard before.
We have already told you about our roaming through Prokopske and Dalejske valleys. Today we take you into another green oasis of the Czech Republic’s capital. We visit Troja, a neighborhood with multiple tourist attractions.
Once we saw all that is around the tower we moved inside. We also took a glimpse at 10 huge sculptures of crawling babies (so-called Mimina Babies). These were fixed on the tower in the year 2000.
Wenceslas Square, better known among the people as "Václavák" every Czech knows. Even the one, who the Czech capital and its inhabitants really hates. Rivalry between Prague and the rest of the Czech Republic there is no secret.
