Nová Pec - Stožec - Schwarzenberg Canal - Nová Pec
If you wish to undertake easy and pleasant drive around Bohemian Forest, you have chosen right route. This route begins in a community of Nová Pec at the end of Lipno water reservoir and continues along Vltava river passing Vltava Luh (Vltava Meadow-Land), one of biggest peat-bogs. Along moderately rising 15 kms long arranged asphalted road you can admire marvellous views around Lipno. Later, you can have a rest (provided you wish it) at a refreshment point ?U Černého Kříže? (Black Cross), not far of confluence point of Studená (Cold) and Teplá (Warm) Vltava. From here, there is a jump to Stožec, followed again by moderated rising, this time along forest path (Donkey Path) up to Schwarzenberg Canal. This canal is a remarkable work, constructed within 1793-1823 by forest engineer Rosenauer, on request Jan of Schwarzenberg. This canal is 44 kms long, its banks are formed with granite plates in bends. Originally, it served for wood floating. In Jelení, you will have time for further stop. You can check at the same time that canal work which accompanied you up to this place, is really very remarkable. Later, you pass a chapel of builder Rosenauer, erected in 1818. After several further kilometres, you reach a place where canal changes to small aqueduct. In community of Raškov you leave this water work and drive down back to Nová Pec, where your journey started.
