Milevsko
Žďákov Bridge was named, after his termination, as technical wonder of the world. At that time, it was the greatest one-arched steel bridge of the world. The bridge is arising above water level of Orlík Dam. When the bridge was finished, it became one of dominants of Central Vltava-region. The bridge got its name according to one inundated community. The bridge is connecting Vltava-banks at the community of Orlík, in distance of 15 kms from the town of Milevsko.
The bridge construction was started with Orlík-Dam pier building (at the same time) in 1957, and it lasted till 1965, when the bridge was solemny set into operation. The bridge has extraordinary dimensions. Its length is 540 metres, main arch at spread has 330 metres is supporting the construction. A road from Tábor to Pilsen, in the height of 560 metres over lake water level, and 100 metres over former river-bottom, is leading here. Whole bridge construction acts with impression of extraordinary light building.
