SK, Low Tatras Mountains – Vrbicke Pleso
Published: 26.9.2013
Join us for a easy tour around beautiful Vrbicke pleso. From there you will experience interesting view of the Low Tatras.

South from Liptovsky Mikulas, at the end of  Demanovska valley there is the largest ski resort in Slovakia - Jasna Nizke Tatry. Almost every skier and snowboarder have heard about the ski resort. Not every, however, knows that nearby is located a beautiful glacial lake, the largest natural lake in the Low Tatras - Vrbicke pleso.

Lyžařské středisko Jasná Nízké Tatry v létě
You can plan your visit in any period of the year. Its magic will always captivate you. Our trip to the Low Tatras was in the end of summer. We drove from Krakow, Poland. For we arrived in the afternoon turistický chodník k Vrbickému plesuand we were tired after several hours spent in car and felt tiredness from a wedding night of our friends, so we weren’t in a mood for a hike. We were accommodated in old but very nice hotel. With three hours until the dinner we took a walk around.

Vrbické pleso
Vrbicke pleso is only about fifteen minutes of walk away from a parking lot below ski slopes in Bila Pout. Vrbicke pleso is located in upper west part of Demanovska valley at 1113 meters above the sea level, the lake covers 0,73 hectares. It is 115 meters long and 62 meters wide. In its lowest point it is 8 meters deep. It is a unique moraine lake that emerged after glacier on northern hills Chopku and Deresov disappeared. Its origin is similar to lakes in the High Tatras. To ensure stable water surface level the damns were adjusted on Vrbnicke pleso from which the Otupnianka River outflows. Because the lake has been experiencing vast growth of vegetation on its banks people have started worrying about decrease of the size of the lake, or its total perish. Due to this there are some incentives to start a project that would preserve Vrbnicke pleso. The lake was declared a natural sight in 1975.

Vrbické pleso
Alpine air, beautiful view and calm water surface.
Back in the 1980’s you might ride a small boat on the lake. Hopefully they would return as they did on Strbske pleso. Today you can rest on wooden benches during your walk around Vrbicke pleso and enjoy calm water surface or beautiful views of the Low Tatras peaks. Quiet forest around and fresh alpine air are the true "refreshments".

Další výlety v okolí
The whole Low Tatras are crisscrossed with tourist trails. Even vicinity of Vrbicke Pleso isn’t exception. By good tourist trails you can get from Vrbicke Pleso to, for instance, to Demanovska Freedom Cave  . If you take a blue trail you would get there after about 2,5 hours of walk.

We stayed sitting on a bench and enjoy our rest. There is nothing better than talking with beloved person on a romantic place.
