Autumn is the most colorful period of the year and one of the most suitable for exploring the beauty of Slovakia. This time we will take you to the village of Červený Kláštor, where we will experience an amazing adventure in the form of a rippling river.
The article is brought to you:
The spa village of Červený Kláštor, located in the Kežmarok district in the Zamaguria region, offers visitors many attractions. You can visit the unique Gothic Carthusian monastery, where you can learn about the life of monks, including the famous collector of medicinal plants - Cyprian, the Roman Catholic church of St. Romuald from 1689, or the restored Červený Kláštor - Smerdžonka spa. But the biggest attraction is definitely the border river Dunajec surrounded by the mountain massif called Pieniny.
The Pieniny Mountains are part of the Carpathian mountain range and offer many charming hikes. Since they are not only spread over the territory of Slovakia, but also on the territory of Poland, you need to plan your tourist route well. Among the most visited peaks are Vysoká, Červený Kláštor, the iconic Three Crowns (PL), Sokolica (PL), Holica and Haligovská rocks with numerous cave systems. Selected parts of the territory are declared national parks. The Slovak one is the smallest national park in the country, but it offers to see the so-called The breach of the Dunajec, and therefore the most valuable part of the territory in terms of natural science, as well as rock straits, complexes of rocks and rock formations, and last but not least, rare fauna and flora. Since the Pieniny region was never glaciated, there are also many endemics.
If we return to tourism, the Dunajec Gorge offers visitors a breathtaking experience. There is an educational trail built here (one of the first in the former Czechoslovakia), not only for pedestrians and cyclists, but also for people with reduced mobility, which connects the villages of Červený Kláštor and Lesnica. Several educational boards line the route, from which you can learn something about the natural attractions of the area.
However, the most beautiful view of the surrounding landscape is provided by the river Dunajec. That's why you can find several boat rental companies or rafters through which you will experience an amazing adventure. You can float on traditional wooden rafts or inflatable boats called rafting.
From the water surface, you will have a truly unique view of the impressive canyon created by the river cutting into the limestone massif. You will enjoy rock walls reaching a height of almost 300 meters, large meanders and water that is among the cleanest in Central Europe. In addition, if you plan your visit in autumn, nature will bless you with incredible picturesqueness.
We enjoyed the rafting. We swam under the bridge of love connecting not only two border villages, but also people, enjoyed views of the natural palette of diversity, got to know the striking Gorals and, last but not least, enjoyed the adrenaline while crossing the roaring sections of the river. It was an experience that we will remember for a long time and we highly recommend you to experience it as well.
