River description:

The river sources on north slope of Javorník, in western direction of the community of Makov. From here, it flows in north-east direction up to the community of Raková, where it turns to the east, and behind the town of Čadca, it turns back, with great circle, to the south and in this direction it flows up to its mouth into Váh-river, near to the town of Žilina. River basin takes 1040 square kilometres, the length of navigable flow is more than 52 kms long.

This river, especially in its upper section up to Čadca, flows through nice countryside, wide valley, bordered with Javorníky Hills on the right side, whereas on left side, there are extended Moravsko-slezské Beskydy Mountains, Slovak Beskydy and Kysuca Highlands. The river-bed is full of gravels, on some places there are appearing several boulders, comparatively wide, with overgrown banks on several places. Anyway, it is mostly smooth and the water streams here is flowing, with not so big slope, quite quickly. On the river, there are few artificial obstacles – two weirs only, where the carrying over of boats is quite easy. The river is relatively clear, and the navigation is not too difficult. It is suitable also for open vessels (boats), provided it is not valid inundation state on the river. Owing to the fact that the navigation could be effected during snow thaw in spring or after heavy rains, there is not necessary to look for places for camping. On the river, there are missing water index registers. The navigability could be judged according to the section visible from the road, near to the small town of Krásno nad Kysucou.

• Čadca - district town with violent development after 2nd World War. There are to be found here many industrial factories. It is a centre of Kysuca Region. Baroque church and parsonage of 18th century, Kysuca museum.
• Kysucké Nové Mesto - the second economy centre of Kysuca Region with an important factory ZVL. Renaissance and Baroque houses, brewery of 17th century, Neo-classical church.
