Published: 22.9.2020
In the western foothills of the Roháče Mountains, you will find the village of Zuberec in a picturesque valley. In addition to trips to the mountains, it also attracts the extensive open-air museum of the Orava Village Museum and the Brest Cave. Let's go here together and look into the history of the Orava region.
In the village of Zuberec itself, see the local church of St. Vendelín and several original cottages, which are called wooden houses. Then continue for about 2 kilometers to the valley of Studený potok to the open-air museum itself.
On about 8 hectares, the museum tries to present the folk buildings of the region, their facilities and the everyday life of the local people. Since 1967, over 50 buildings have gradually been built here, most of which are originals transported from various locations in Orava.
You will see Dolnooravský rínok - a village with a market and a village square, Hornooravská street, which represents a street type of village with terraced buildings, Goralské lazy as an example of scattered mountain homesteads and a mill with a mound. From the highest point, a beautiful wooden church of St. Elizabeth with a painted interior overlooks the village.
For most buildings, you can look inside to see the different types of rooms where people used to live. In the open-air museum, they try to get as close as possible to the outdoor areas of the settlements, so they keep domestic animals here and grow crops typical of the local region.
The whole Museum of the Orava village breathes the atmosphere that the local region could have had 200 or more years ago. It will show you how harsh life in the valleys in the shadow of the mountains could have been. I don't like similar museums myself, but the open-air museum in Zuberec thrilled me.
Of course, you can combine the visit with a tour of the Brest Cave, the entrance to which you will find only a few tens of meters from the open-air museum. And don't forget to try some of the region’s traditional dishes in the local hut. If you want to get to know the beautiful nature of Roháče better, go for example to the Roháčske plesá Nature Trail and to the Roháč Waterfall.
Last week we briefly imagined the history of Dolní Kubín and today we will go for a walk through its alleys, squares and interesting nooks. We start at Náměstí Svobody, which is surrounded by three architecturally monumental buildings.
This time we invite you on a trip to the Western Tatras, more precisely to the Roháč Valley. Our goal will be the alpine Ťatliakova chata, which is an ideal starting point for hiking to Smutný sedlo, Zábrať saddle or, for example, to Roháčské plesy.
The Western Tatras is very popular and frequented mountain range. Treks here, the main ridge especially, are amazing and people who go there long remember it. Ostry Rohac is perhaps the most attractive and most well known peak in this area. Many tourists hike across it every year.
There is something about making winter treks. Harsh, icy beauty of nature in winter tempts many people to set out to nature. We can make some more difficult trips even in Slovakian mountains, concretely in the Low Tatras, Western Tatras, and High Tatras. Placlivy mountain in the Western Tatras, is a locality accessible to tourist even during the winter season.
The Western Tatras are a magical mountain range that offers many outdoor activities to lovers of outdoor activities. Hiking and more and more popular skialpinist tours can only be done in certain areas of the mountain range. An interesting locality that can be visited in winter is the Holy Hill.

In this article, we invite you to an unusual tour of one of the side ridges of the Western Tatras, which will lead us to the Sivy Hill - a mountain situated on the main ridge of the mountain range.
Autumn is the most colorful season of the year and the best for tourism. You need to count on early sunsets but the sun is not so hot. Therefore, we decided to go up into the mountains.
Today we move from the High Tatras to Western Tatras where we visit Žiarska valley where popular Žiarska Cottage is located (1324 meters above the sea level). This position is a great starting point for any trek to the regions of Braníkov and Barance.
In the fourth part of our series about the safety on the mountains, we focus on morphologically related to mountains, and therefore we will focus on the Western and low Tatra. Their bedrock consists mainly of alumina surface, but not only part of Roháče and the section of Ďumbier - Chopok.
The Western Tatras are the most beautiful and most charming in autumn - when the grassy slopes of the ridges and moutains as well as the trees are painted in bright shades of brown, yellow-brown and reddish-brown. In this article, we will introduce the transition of the autumn Alpine landscape, our goal will be the highest mountain of the Western Tatras - Bystra mountain.
The West Tatras are very attractive mountain ridge for tourists. These mountains are especially known for trek difficulty. Yet any tour along their ridges, into their klippes or climbs up Rohace's exposed ridge are worth it. However, you may make here an easy tour as well particularly to Preduvratie klippe.
Like the High Tatra West Tatra is also popular area. You can have some remarkable outdoor experience there. Both mountains seems to be one whole. However, unlike the High Tatra, West Tatra are lower. Its mountains are more covered of grass. Barance mountain (2 185 m) is a popular locality by tourists. This mountain is situated in the south of this mountain ridge.
