The river sources in eastern part of Low Tatra Mountains below Králova hola. At first, it flows towards northwest, anyway, near to Teplička, the river turns to the west and near to the community of Kralova Lehota, it joins Biely Váh. River basin makes 315 square kilometres, the length of navigable section makes 29 kms.
The river has, on its upper part section, narrow and often stony river bed. It flows through very nice, afforested valley. From the community of Čierny Váh, it starts 3 kms long valley-dam. Below its pier, there remains last 9 kms of terrain, full of rapids with remarkable slope. This river is suitable even for less experienced watermen and open vessels. The navigation of Čierny Váh is placed (according to water level situation) into programme of International Tatra Watermen Circle. In section Benkovo-Králova Lehota, there is taken place Watermen Tourist Ability Drive „Čierny Váh“.
Water register index is to be found here in Liptovská Teplička (minimum stand has to be here 28 cms for navigation from Teplička to Cierny Váh). Anyway, for navigability judgment, it is sufficient water register index in Liptovsky Hrádok in Váh-river. So, for navigation from Výpad or Liptovská Teplička, you nedd to have minimal water level of 130 cm, for navigation below dam, this is decisive the quantity of water disponible.
