River description:
Danube, the second greatest river in Europe, sources in an altitude of 700 metres above sea level, near to the town of Donaueschingen in Germany. In general, it flows in eastern direction throughout seven states (countries). From the place of its spring up to the mouth into Black Sea (near to the town of Sulina), it is totally 2850 kms long. The whole Danube-river basin makes 817000 square kilometres. Danube river is navigable all year round.

Places of interest:
- Devín - castle ruin located on high rock over confluence of Morava and danube-rivers. In past, there was Roman stronghold. It is a symbol of Slovak national consciousness, declared as National Cultural Monument.
- Bratislava - capital of Slovakia, seat of higest Slovak institutions. It is an important industrial, economical as well as cultural centre with many architectonical monuments and sightseeings. Historical town nucleus is declared as Town historical centre, the Castle is reconstructed. Important port on Danube. It is starting point for excursions to Small Carpathian Hills.
- Komárno - district town with many architectonical monuments. It is an important river-port, including great dockyards. Border-crossing point into Hungary. Citadel of 16th-19th century (national cultural monument), houses of Baroque style with Empire arrangements, Baroque orthodox church and classical building of rotunda type, museum.
