River description:

The river sources in Low Beskydy Mountains, not far from Polish border. At first, it flows in south-east direction to the town of Medzilaborce, where it turns towards south. From Cirocha-river mouth, it flows mostly to southwest, up to its mouth into Latorica-river. Navigable section makes 123 kms, river basin takes 4520 km².

In its upper section, Laborec has flat river-bed, full of gravels, anyway, with violent stream in open, but nice valley. The navigation is very interesting and quick, with many rapids. Below the town of Humenné, the river enters into low-land and the rivers starts to be meandered. River-bed is clayish, the banks are overgrown with alder grove, the stream is moderate, but navigation is quick and regular, without any obstacles. You can find only four weirs along the whole flow.

From Humenné, Laborec-river is navigable all year round. With the exception of low water-levels, there is quite difficult to descend the section from 45th km, where the canal, watering Zemplínska Šírava water reservoir, turns aside into small river of Čierna Voda. From Habura up to Medzilaborce, the river is navigable within high water-level only. Water index register has to show 80 cm in Krásný Brod (for navigation from Habura), and 70 cm from Medzilaborce, this corresponds 85 cms, on water index register in Koškovce.
