Austria, Kitzsteinhorn – Great Skiing

Published: 14.2.2024
If you love skiing and snowboarding and you are not beginners, then go to Kitzsteinhorn. It is a glacier in the Alpes in the Hohe Tauern. Snow is there all year long. Kitzsteinhorn is 3203 meters high and situated to the north from the highest mountain in Austria - Grossglockner.

The ski resort sits at 1975-3000 meters of altitude on the northern slopes of Kitzsteinhornu. Two cable car cabins link the valley with the resrot. There is a vast car park at the bottom station and it is for free. If you stay in Kaprun or Zell am See which are both nearby, you can travel to the resort by skibuses. Skipass is available at the car park or online. The cable car gets you to 3 029 meters. From there, enjoy the amazing vista over the Alps and Zell am See. To get some time off the skiing, we recommend two scenic routes, a national park gallery, and a restaurant.

Nowe, there are only wide ski slopes of all difficulties. Snow is natural, there are many routes for freeriders, three snowparks, and the largest superpipe for freestylers in Austria. Moreover, you can try slalom situated in separate line. There are heated cable cars with seats. You can use classic tow on short slopes. The slopes have their numbers so you won't get lost in large ski resort of the Alps. When buying a skipass you also get a map so you can find a slope of such difficulty that suits you the best.

There are two sport stores on Kitzsteinhorn. Moreover, there is mountain rescue, visitor center, and ski rental and service.

Once hunger and thirst overcome you, there are many places to fulfill your needs there. ICE CAMP is one of them. Situated at 2600 meters it presents an incredible world of ice and snow with three large igloo. Each igloo has diameter of 12 meters and all are linked one to another. The interior design changes every year and everytime is stunning. There is a bar in one igloo. There you can drink from ice glasses. Next to it, there is a stand selling some snacks, benches, flding beds and great music plays in the background helping you to relax. If you feel cold, go to heated resting rooms.

Winter is here again. For some, it is perhaps too cold and harsh, but to me it is the most popular season of the year. Everything is hidden under a fluffy white blanket of snow and acts somewhat calmer, and even cleaner than the rest of the year. It is also a time of winter holidays in the mountains, meeting with friends over a glass of mulled wine or it is a time of a great cabbage soup, which will warm you up in this season.
