Zvikov castle is a symbol of the region of South Bohemia. It has guarded the confluence of the Otava and Vltava rivers since the beginning of the 13th century. Then the castle was standing on a high rock projection and guarded the wild river on the bottom of a deep canyon. Rather docile, the castle has been standing on the side of the Orlicka Dam for last 60 years.

There are many beautiful towns and villages in east Slovakia. We visit one of them today. This one is situated between Branisko, the Levoccske hills, the Hornadska basin just several kilometers from Spissky Castle. The village is called Polanovce. There are interesting buildings as well as beautiful nature.

As was told in the first part, now you know why to go to Brno. You know where to start your exploration of the historical district and where to have lunch. What is next? We are going to spend some moments on Svoboda square. There is a mysterious astronomical clock. We cant avoit a visit to Spilberk castle, Villa Tugendhat (under UNESCO) and a functionalist borough around it. When the Creator was giving he was particularly generous to the south Moravians. Thus, they could call their land the “land of wine.” He gave them the most sun in the Czech lands as well as warm climate doing good to grapes but bolstering recreational activities as well – for instance at Vranovska dam, Brnenska dam or on the lakes near Palava. So what waits here for visitors? Great Moravian landmarks, castles, chateaus, sacral buildings, great works of engineering, border fortresses, and beautiful places in nature. There is no coincidence in south Moravia being the second most interesting locality for tourists right next to Prague.

After a while, we return to the village of Cicmany famous for its painted timbered houses. In 1977, this was the reason behind declaring it a folk architecture reserve. However, this is not the only interesting thing about this village near the Strazovske Vrchy.

When I have learned recently that Lonely Planet declared Brno the least interesting city in the Czech Republic I couldn’t understand. Then I realized that it was good they said it after all. Had crowds of tourists been going there every day as they go to Prague it would soon loose its magic. Brno is a city of universities, fun, culture and many small, lovely places. The turning clock in the shape of a male genitalia from which a small glass ball falls out every hour. Smoking road signs are really to be found only here… New York Times was much more smarter. They put Brno on the list of 52 places where to go in 2016!

There is much interesting about the capital of the Czech Republic. There are many landmarks and historical streets. The history truly walked through the city. There is, however, another perspective from which you can see Prague. Vltava boat cruises are available all year round. On every cruise there is an interesting lecture on landmarks including information you perhaps haven’t heard before.

There is the renaissance chateau of Breznice near the mining town of Pribram. Its history is deep and rich. There are several tours for the visitors. Yet they can also take a break in the park or the zwinger garden. The café at cheau is also a nice spot to sit down and relax.

Last week we set off to explore Slovensky Raj, the area between Smizany and Cingov villages. This part of the trail goes across meadows, forest paths and roads. However, there was greater challenge ahead. Prulom Hornadu is area known for is know climbing irons and safety chains.

What unusual is happening at this castle? It is simply haunted. Do you know already? Krakovec castle is well-known for Knight Brtnik of Brtnik, a character from a movie. However, the castle was built in the deep forests near Rakovnik more than 600 years ago. It also played a role in the life of important historical characters such as Jan Hus.

HOTEL Chateau BERCHTOLD is situated near Prague in the fabulous land of Lada. Its name comes from the noble Berchtold family. They owned the chateau at the turn of the 20th century. In 2005, a complete reconstruction and revitalization of the chateau began. It transformed the compound to a place where interesting events take place. Especially families with children are fond of the chateau for its family atmosphere and delicious food.
