Bulgaria: Nice Experiences on Vacation

Published: 4.5.2015
All your friend have already been to Bulgaria and you don’t know why? You think where to go for a vacation? Bulgaria is a great tip and we will tell you why!

You won’t spend your entire fortune

You don’t pay with euro but with levas. Moreover, an average salary is not so high that the country would seem to us as rich and expensive. You afford a menu in a restaurant on your vacation in Bulgaria. This isn’t true, however, for entire Eurozone .Also, a four-star hotel wont cost you as much as an exclusive hotel in the Tatras. The capital of Bulgaria - Sofia was declared as the most affordable city of 2013 by TripAdvisor..

What you cannot buy in Bulgaria : pink oil. Real Bulgarian pink oil is the main ingredience to many parfumes and costs as much as pure gold! Why? One liter of this oil needs half-a-ton of Rose leaves! No wonder it is called “liquid gold”.

People are friendly

Bulgarians understood that their livelihood depends on tourism. Along shorelines you would hardly find anybody who wouldn’t be involved in tourism .Their English is bad but that is a small obstacle. Well, even Slovaks or Czechs are nothing but experts in English, right? But Bulgarians are brother Slavs so they approach us differently than Germans or other nationalities. Many when they recognize similar language will tell you their life story and give you a significant discount. It is great their effort to understand you – they switch to Russian very flawlessly.

Affordabilityhlavní město Sofie

Today, every travel agency offers trips to Bulgaria . However, we think you can save a lot of money by finding an accommodation in Bulgaria by yourself - for instance, on websites offering accommodation. Furthermore, you can get cheap flight tickets to Bulgaria (tip: buy flight tickets at least 6 months in advance!). You only have to choose wisely your ride from airport to hotel. In Bulgaria, traffic has different rules and a bus ride could be well an experience you would remember your entire life (we wrote our last will in a bus that we thought would either fall into pieces).

As we had already said, even the most expensive menu in Bulgaria is nothing compared to a lunch in the center of Bratislava. A meal of three courses and a desert will cost you less than 8 €, a perfect price while you are on vacation .What will surprise you even more are not prices but the quality of food. Especially at sea sea food is always fresh and everything you get on your plate will be literally “organic.” Try Bulgarian national meals which mostly will be light on your stomach and contain lots of veggies or grilled meat. For a breakfast (or even as a side dish to meat or salad) have yogurt. It is a Bulgarian invention that enriched the whole world. Yet Bulgarian varation has a specific taste and consistence. Don’t expect what you are used to in your supermarket. Don’t forget about wine in Bulgaria. Specialist praise Bulgarian wine to which is great to have some Bulgarian cheese or other Bulgarian meal.

Tip for a popular Bulgarian specialty : Bulgarians love French fries powdered with feta cheese. Give them a chance! You wont regret it!

Active rest

To many Bulgarian nature is veiled in mystery. Why? Because everyone just travel to the country to lay on a beach! Learn about natural gems that are avoided by many tourists. See, for instance, a Bulgarian tourism site  and find a trail near your destination. If you want to exhaust yourself and your kids go for a multiple-day hike. Designed routes will offer you also refreshments and accommodation. And there are some routes that will show you breathtaking sights.

Unexpected culture

Most tourists know Bulgaria from beach or a hotel window. To travel around is to learn about beauties of the country. The Bulgarians gifted the world with one of the most common alphabets – the modern Cyrillic. And, for instance, Sofia, is the only place in the world where a cathedral, a synagogue, a mosque, and an orthodox church stand one next to another. These buildings form the so called “rectangle of tolerance” where any belief is welcomed.
