Bulgaria, Sunny Beach – Holiday Paradise

Published: 12.7.2022
In the next few weeks we will set out for the Balkan Peninsula, more precisely for Bulgaria. This European country has given the world many inventions, remarkable personalities, and has opened up many beautiful natural places, architectural gems and cultural customs.

Bulgaria is a country of roses that you can find almost everywhere from natural to cosmetics to sweets. Also, communicating Bulgarians with their heads is unique (swinging from right to left means yes, vice versa - up to down not). The diverse state offers a huge number of thermal springs, one of the oldest inhabited places in Europe (Plovdiv), and has hundreds of kilometers of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the continent.

The Czechs and Slovaks are very fond of this holiday destination for our people. The most popular destinations include Varna and Burgas, which offer a paradise rest on the Black Sea coast. And we are going to Burgas province today. We will visit the famous Sunny Beach, which is not only the largest resort in the country, but also the most popular.

The crescent-shaped bay features over 500 hotels, hundreds of apartments, restaurants, boutiques and cafes. Most of the accommodation facilities have undergone a complete refurbishment or a complete refurbishment, so the comfort and services provided are close to the world's most popular destinations.

Interesting is the distribution of the population. The locals live relatively little, but during the holiday area is literally overcrowded with thousands of tourists. The main strip of accommodation facilities and associated buildings stretches from the ancient town of Nessebar to the seaside resort of Sveti Vlas, where you will also see a few hills of the Balkans.

The history of Sunny Beach as well as the resorts began in 1958, when relatively grand construction began. The then communist regime wanted to offer an alternative to the Mediterranean resorts for residents of the so-called Eastern Bloc. The site was selected on the basis of the vast sandy coast and the availability of drinking water. Gradually, afforestation of the area, import of hundreds of thousands of tons of fertile soil and planting of ornamental shrubs and roses were carried out. In 1969, a millionth tourist was officially registered and two millionth tourist in four years. With hindsight, we can say that the goal of the functionaries at that time succeeded. Traces of socialist construction are still evident, but with the gradual construction and renovation of the coast, these remains gradually disappear.

Thanks to the pleasant Mediterranean climate, which cools the northeastern winds during the hot summer, it is an ideal holiday destination. Gradual entry into the sea, wide fine sand beaches, affordability and relatively new attractions in the form of two stunning water parks (the first in Bulgaria) make Sunny Beach a top destination for families with children. There are also opportunities for sports.

The most frequent visitors are the local Bulgarians, followed by the Russians, Germans, British or Scandinavians. The interest in this center is also growing in Central Europe. Transport between the resorts is provided by buses as well as a tourist train.

In addition to the traditional holiday nightlife, various musical events, folklore festivals, fashion shows are held here and until 1999, the international festival of the popular song Golden Orpheus (similar to the Bratislava lyre) took place here.

The sun-drenched coast is not yet completely abandoned, as we will visit the ancient pearl registered in the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983 - the town of Nesebar.
