Croatia: Baška Summer Resort On the Island of Krk
Everyone of us imagines something different when thinking about an ideal vacation. Someone likes to lie on a beach; some breaks his limits when climbing on mountains, or throws away his responsibility and goes to wild parties. For me it is a combination of everything mentioned above – from beaches, through crazy sports, to exploration of beauties of nature and tasting local cuisine.
I have never enjoyed exploration of the sea. After few minutes I am bored. Neither sunbathing, reading a book in shadows of trees I liked for more then few hours. Luckily my husband and me are considering this the same. A week on a beach isn’t a true relaxation. This shapes our vacation – we explore the surroundings, try every possible or impossible water sport, walk through local towns and visit wonders of nature or some cultural sights. Usually I am not tanned even after ten days of vacation. When cohorts of holidaymaker change I look like I just arrived. Well, at least my husband Mark is tanned and his skin reminds me of nice moments of our summer vacation and it does even today when snowflakes are falling on the other side of window.
We planned this vacation in an entirely different fashion. We decided that in 10 days we will visit three countries: - Croatia, Slovenia and on our way back home we will stop by in Austria. We didn’t have any particular plan of our route, because we decided to move off in a moment, as they say. We packed our stuff, took a tent, spirit stove and some food, because we didn’t know if we hadn’t spent some nights in camp. And we did. We hit the road after midnight from Prague and on early morning we enjoyed a fresh sea air on a beautiful pebble beach in Croatia. Our first shelter was in well-equipped camp in Baška summer resort on the island of Krk. This time we enjoyed sunbathing by the sea, since we knew that rest of our days there would devoted to tourism and exploring of surrounding nature and cultural sights. We anticipated we wouldn’t lie under the sun and read books until the end of our vacation
Relax u moře
We decided we would spent first three days in a well-known Croatian summer resort Baška, which is thanks to its architecture one of the most beautiful places for vacation in the region of the Adriatic Sea. It is located in southeastern part of the island of Krk, in the Bay of Baška. Beautiful streets, houses built tightly one next to another , mountains growing from sea surface, fresh sea air… This and more waited for us in Baška. Few times we walk through a four-kilometer promenade along the sea is lined with restaurants, inns and stands with souvenirs. However, the most attractive for us remained crystal clear sea and a beautiful long beach covered with fine-grained gravel stone. Eventually, three days happened to be four. In the evening of the fourth we wanted to move somewhere to Slovenia, however during a lunchtime heavy rain started. It was impossible to pack our tent and move off somewhere else. Well, we didn’t mind. Summer storm has magic of its own. I had read a thrilling book until I finished it. We had our supper in a nearby inn and few “shots” with local fishermen secured thunder wouldn’t disturb our sleep.
In the morning, when we got out of our sleeping bags, it seemed we are in an entirely different camp. Yesterday there were lots of tents around us. Today there was none. Only camper trailers remained. In the evening we saw few people hop to their cars, however they didn’t pack their tents. They just put tents to containers. A half-empty camp was a surprise for us. Maybe many packed their stuff early in the morning. It was a huge storm last night. Luckily, our tent was unharmed and even water didn’t get inside despite the high intensity of the storm. We were happy we didn’t raise the tent on a place one meter aside, since there emerged a large pool. We set out to the nearest bakery to get some fresh donuts for breakfast and some French bread for our following journey. The wind pleasantly blew and it didn’t take long and our tent was completely dry. During the storm we found on the Internet some beautiful places in Slovenia we would like to visit in the following days. We quickly threw our stuff to the car and before the clock striked noon we hit the road to our next stop – the town of Postojna.
The reason why we decided to visit Postojna and what lies in its surroundings you may find next week.

Towards the end of the summer beaches are not that overcrowded. The sun is still warm and the accommodation prices or prices for beach attractions are going down. Thus we and our friends set out to the „Slovak“ sea, to Croatia.
For decades Croatia has been popular destination among Czech tourists. Every year many families set off for a family vacation for several days at blue Adriatic Sea, eating Balkan cuisine and enjoying its culture.

In case you have only a short vacation and you intend to drive to the sea by car then Umag is a great place in Croatia. It is a port town on the Istria peninsula. Among its advantages are clear sea or beaches that are not overcrowded.
The national park covers an area of almost 300 square kilometers yet visitors may access only a fraction of it. The greater part of the reserve is home to large beasts including bears. Seldomly a lynx has been spotted.
Every Czech has probably experienced a classic summer vacation at the Adriatic Sea at least once. And there will be not many of those who missed the stories of Indian chief Vinettou and his white brother Old Shatterhand. Are you one of those whom these associations make a smile on their faces? So here we are, the last part of our trip across Slovenia. Again we woke up to a cloudy morning but this time it didn’t rain at least. There was an easy trip by a cableway on Vogel and from there we would continue by walk to a vantage point Točka.
Today we will again go to admire beauties of Slovenian nature. From Lake Bled we will move to not less fascinating Lake Bohinj where we will see also the Savica Falls.
This bay is also known as Lim Canal, and you can find it on west coast of Istria, six kilometres distant from the town of Rovinj. The canal is nine kilometres long and was established with inundation of karst valley.
I was one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world... Taking the bus to the Croatian port of Split from Bratislava lasted approximately 12 hours. Luckily it was that the island is almost at the very south of Croatia, and the number of passengers slightly exceeded the number 20. So in the bus each passenger had two seats, and that is real luxury.
We always just travel throughout Slovenia, maybe the reason was we were in hurry to get to Croatia or on our way back home. Even we have heard a lot about its beauties, we never managed to find few days or hours, at least, to stop and explore. At last, we changed it and a part of a late summer vacation we spent in Slovenia.
Postojna town is located in southwest Slovenia. Fans of traveling and the nature know the town thanks to its unique cave system – Postojnska jama. We managed to visit this natural sight at the end of summer. Frankly, it was a wonderful experience.
Slovenian Predjama Castle is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating castles in the world. It is hidden in a town of the same name, which is only 10 kilometers away from Postojna, a popular tourist town known for its unique cave system.
As we decided to spend few days in Slovenia it wouldn’t go without visiting probably the most Slovenian lake Bled. The lake is considered one of Slovenian symbols. This beautiful lake is located in the eastern part of Julian Alps right by a noisy town of the same name.
Today we will not move anywhere. We will spend the whole day in Bled, a town that is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia. We will set out for a visit of one of the most beautiful and precious landmarks. We will see a monumental castle on a cliff above Lake Bled and we will visit a local market.
We woke up to beautiful, however, calm morning. We ate something, checked our backpack if there were things necessary since we intended to spend the whole day out, and we set out to the lake. That day we decided to visit a church on the island in the middle of the lake and spend the afternoon in the town.
If you ever visit Slovenia, do not miss a visit of a beautiful Bled Gorge that is located only few kilometers from well-known Bled.
