CZ, Kostelec nad Orlicí – Empire-Style Novy Zamek

Novy Zamek is a one-story structure partially laid below the ground. It features low roofs. Elegant, minimalist arcade is adorned by a front face with columns. In symmetric way the same columns are in the back part of the chateau. East side of the chateau is composed as a terrace due to elevated terrain. Symmetrical double staircase put a finish touch on this part. A triangle shaped western side features Ervin and Maria's coat of arms. The chateau features bathrooms with running water and hot air heating system, a state of the art systems of its time. The chateau is very similar to Kacina chateau. This is no coincidence. Kacina by Dresden architect Schurichta greatly inspired architect Koch.
The chateau is of Biedermeier and Empire style. Tables are laid with contemporary porcleain. The main attraction here is the library. Tomes are meticulously arranged from bottom to the ceiling. The ceilings are quite high. Behind part of the wall, there is a spiral staircase which leads up to the gallery. Also, rare tomes have been preserved. They are witness of what nobleman visited the chateau. The records always feature coat of arms and the reason of a visit. Sort of a guestbook. The Hall of Mirrors is great for concerts and also wedding ceremonies tak place there.
Biedermeier-style furniture will catch your attention for its features. A corner study armchair features a foldable desk. This piece of furniture was way ahead of its time. Also, a trendy potty built in a high wooden chair. Also, the name of this design style is featured in the name of a guided tour – Life with Biedermeier. Walls are decorated by family portraits and historic photographs of the building and interiors. When listening to commentary on guided tour you will learn about relationships among nobility.
Wings of this extensive homestead lines the court. A cafe with terrace and a playground. A park, garden, alpinium, and tennis courts covers an area of 30 hectares. Moreover, this place was decolared a nature reserve. It features rare animal and plant species which thrive in the area. Structures which used to be there in the past included a gatehouse, a watchman's stand, a shooting rnage, and other structures which don't exist anymore. Unfortunately, the chateau used to be a pig breeding facility. This didn't add to structure's condition. The bottom part of the park which faces the Divoka Orlice across which runs a railway track.
You can visit the chateau by car for the car park is in close vicinity. Also, you can travel there by bike along bike trail which starts in Doudleb na Orlici, a neighbohring village.
