CZ, Pálava: Great Bike Ride around Pálava
Today's bike trip will start in the village of Kobylí. From here, across the cycle path, largely along the field road around Bořetice and Velké Pavlovice, we set off to Starovičky. Here is our first stop waiting for us. In 2014, a lavender farm was established here. You can buy a ticket for the field at a local lavender shop, and the field is about 1.2 km away on foot. The road is relatively dusty in the dry, surrounded by vineyards and directly from the field there is a beautiful view of the Pálav Hills.
From there we continue through Šakvice on mostly flat terrain to Mušovské lakes. From Strachotín to Dolní Věstonice we drive directly along the dam between the lakes. We have beautiful views of the countryside. In Dolní Věstonice we stop and refresh ourselves in one of the local cafes. This village is known for the discovery of the famous Venus of Věstonice, and yet there is peace and quiet without crowds of tourists.
We are slowly starting to climb to Horní Věstonice, to Perná to Klentnice. The hill is not the smallest, but it can be managed. As a reward, other beautiful views await us from all sides. Here is the highest peak of this bike trip. Now there is no hill waiting for us and we go down from Pavlov to the lake. In 2016, the Pavlov Archeopark opened a historical museum under Pavlov. We walk on the plain again, passing the villages of Milovice and Zaječí. Near Zaječí it is possible to visit the Maják lookout tower, from which there are other views of the whole of Pálava and the vineyards below it. We don't even want to believe that we were in Pálava a while ago, it seems so far away from us. Then it is only a short distance to Rakvice, Velké Pavlovice and our base in Kobylí. There we will have a rest, a glass of wine and a great dinner.
Our bike trip around Pálava is about 80 km long and can be done in less than 5 hours, but I would recommend reserving the whole day for this trip. There are several other stops along the way and you will definitely not be bored here.
