CZ: Slavkov Forest - Angel Mountain And Šemnická Rock
Slavkov Forest lies in eastern Bohemia on the south from Carlsbad. It is strongly aligned mountains, where the highest peak reaches 983 m. Lesný Hill is located in the southwestern part near Spa Kynžvart. Mountain, the protected landscape area, is composed mainly of granite. The average of temperature is according to the altitude range between 5 and 6, 5 °C. The most of area belong to watershed Ohře, the smaller part to the Mže and Střela rivers.
As part of our trip we visited only the northern tip of this beautiful landscape. The first stop was the village Angel Mountain, located about 10 km from Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad). Here I was parked the car, and with my two companions Milan and Kuba headed up the hill to the ruins of the local Gothic castle, known as the village of Mount Angel (Engelsberg). Weather, predominantly in the shooting, was not entirely appropriate, but I think that given the season we were pretty lucky. It wasn’t rainy even snowy, so cold and mud at the moment we definitely could not discouraged.
We walked on path marked by green trail toward not tall peak (717 m). We climbed the stone ruins, admire, although quite hazy, but still a nice view of the surrounding landscape and have fun because we were looking for a place where it gave the highest part of the ruins of a picture without seeing the transmitter, which otherwise have relatively strong dominates. And also from a distance, as we later could convince. When we enjoy enough, we descended again to the village and headed towards the next point of interest, Šemnická rock, which also still belongs to the Slavkov Forest.
On the edge of Mount Angel we read the tourist information board story, how there many years ago, the wife of a lord of the castle, along with local residents placed the barrels with a mysterious liquid down the hill to dissuade him from his passionate interest in alchemy, due to neglected their family responsibilities. Surprisingly, this tactic worked. The pathways through which the barrels rolling down it will never grow up forest and since the time, it is called the radial balks. So we walked in these radial.
When we ran down the hill and passed, at least for a while, from Slavkov forest to Doupov mountains, we continued along the yellow trail on the edge of the military area Fort and along it. The tour was a great swamp at times, but it did not bother anyone too much. Perhaps apart from the moment I'm in a puddle full of mud buried her leg so that my brown water flowed over the edges of shoes. But it was not a big problem, but soon I warmed up my wet sock by my own heat and it was ok again. Les was really charming lower altitudes, it alternated with birch and other deciduous trees with stands of spruce, under which lay a wonderfully green moss layer.
When we got little bit higher and marched on the road for a while, we noticed signs that warned of the reason why suddenly the forest was that runny. This was due to storm Emma, which swept through the Czech Republic 1 March 2008. Her presence there was not really much to know.
When we arrived at Šemnické rock, just so it was time for lunch. So we ran up the rock, and settled in a pleasant atmosphere with beautiful views of the surrounding highlands, we held a piece of bread that he gave us Milan. After a break for lunch and the digestion and after making several images, we parted with Šemnická rock and moved into the forest of Slavkov eroded stratovolcano of Doupov mountains.
