Germany, Bad Füssing – Thermal Spa Near Ceske Budejovice II

Published: 7.12.2015
So let’s continue in our story where we have left it. We return to Bad Füssing thermal spa. We have seen some of what it has to offer but what else is there to do? You shouldn’t miss a walk in pretty vast and beautiful spa park. There are many flowerbeds which fit together really nicely. The colors will allure your sight. Moreover, there are benches, fountains, and silent nooks – simply a perfect place to relax.

Europa Therme is right in the neighborhood. Water temperature starts at 27 °C, in some pools even 40 °C. 15 pools are scattered across 3 000 m2. Majority of visitors love the “canal with stream” – a long pool equipped with a underwater stream which gives speed to swimmers… AeroSalzum is another interesting attraction there. It can contain up to 20 people who can enjoy air saturated with sea water which makes you feel like on a beach. There are many jets driving in sea water in the form of aerosol. Lighting is very pleasant making it an ideal place for rest.

Truly attractive recreational resort is great for entire family. Spa and sauna are separated. When buying admission you can either take for one of those or buy a “combined” ticket. There are over 4 500 m2 of water surface and 13 pools (27 to 39 °C). There things you couldn’t see anywhere else such as the volcanic pool or a pool with wave generator. The resting area covers 60 000 m2.

You can find 5 different kinds of sauna upstairs. It is overall a cozy, silent place. In distance you can hear calm music. The place smells really nice. There are 5 rooms where you can relax, one being in the Indian style, the other is somewhat of a movie theater. Well, about the other rooms – we leave it off. Let it be a surprise for you.

It is really nice to move by bike across the spa town. There are many places you can rent a bicycle and enough places to park your ride. Once you had enough of spas, medical cures and whatnot go to see the town. Cultural events take pace here every day – concerts, lantern festival, wine festivals etc.

Burghausen – kostel

Trips to the surrounding places provide us with pleasant distractions. On one day we planned a visit to Schärding town, Austria. The most beautiful sight there is the square lined with town 16th to 19Th century townhouses.

We went to the fascinating castle compound of Burghausen. It is the longest castle object in Europe. Its length is 1000 meters. This gets us to Germany again. Structures belonging to the castle compound were build on a narrow ridge between the Salzach River and Wöhrsee. Below is the town of Burghausen. It is a truly monumental example of medieval architecture and civil engineering. Massive fortification, many moats, drawbridges, huge farm buildings served for Bavarian ditches to show off their might.

Once we walked thoroughly through this fable of a place we return to our spa town to enjoy another day of rest as we would make a trip to Wolfgangsee lake on the following day.

Next week you will learn how our trip continued.

We set off early in the morning with a long way ahead of us. We are looking forward to a lake cruise. In 1873 the first steam boat Emperor Franz Joseph I had set sails on the lake and cruises have been made there ever since. The steam boat was a technical marvel the then. It is 33 meters long and also was used as a propriety in couple of movies because it allegedly looks romantic. You can also take a ride by this boat as it is still part of the fleet.

Almost a hundred thousand city in south Bohemia would deserve more attention. It shouldn’t be known only as “tourist suburbs” of Cesky Krumlov as it is known today. The royal city on the confluence of the Malse and Vltava impresses with its historical core; especially with Premysl Otakar II square with the baroque Samson’s Fountain and the town hall.
