Hungary: The Picturesque Town Of Tihany - Balaton As At Your Fingertips

The area around Lake Balaton is clearly the most visited parts of Hungary. Whether you are a nature, water sports, fishing, cycling, adrenaline, gastronomy lovers or just like to get to know beautiful places, this location will not disappoint.
Balaton - the largest lake in Central Europe
Balaton, also known as the "Hungarian Sea" is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, with its area spans over 590 km². The length reaches an impressive 77 km, and if you want them to bypass the entire shore, you would have to walk a long handle nearly 200 km. On a walk with us it seemed too long so my husband decided that he will travel to Lake Balaton at least on wheels. Around the lake of Balaton leads a marked cycle route, so we thought that in a few days Balaton surely conquer. It would help us but they could not, even at home, a few days before the planned trip, to steal bikes. So we decided to explore the beauty around the lake by at least one-day "car trips".
Tihany - the most beautiful view on Lake of Balaton
For our first destination we chose the picturesque town of Tihany that is less than 3 hours away from Bratislava by car. Or so we wrote our navigation. But we stopped at the Hungarian way of Tavern on the road to great halászlé (typical Hungarian fish soup), stew and even better, making us a little journey time lengthened. But we definitely did not regret it. To the same named peninsula Tihany, which on the northeast side came into the lake, we arrived shortly after lunch. The picturesque Hungarian town of Tihany, one of the pearls of Lake Balaton is located on the eastern side of the peninsula, 80 meters high on a hill, offering a one of the most beautiful views of the Lake Balaton. It was actually the main reason why we have choosen Tihany for our first visit from this area. Although the weather we just had the best view of the huge lake we have established that once again I have a couple of hours of free time, we have to come back here and the region of Lake Balaton better.
Sights of Tihany town
But let's go back to town on a hill, which originated from a fishing village. The most popular local attractions include the baroque abbey church with two towers, which is visible from afar. There are also several museums, such as rural folk museum, doll museum, or Bencés, abbey museum. The whole area of the peninsula was declared a natural protected area Tihany, whose specialty is internal such as Lake Bels it. Lives are also several rare species of plants and animals. Basaltic rocks and interesting dwelling monks also belongs to the beauty of this area.
But we are in addition to the beautiful view of Lake Balaton, from the viewing platform at the church, the most enchanted house below the church, where the outside dried peppers and shop which was placed with Hungarian specialties. When I entered into it, I knew that with nothing here we go. Addition of dried peppers, we also bought a great flavoured sunflower oil, which floated various herbs and seeds, as well as excellent homemade pasta in spicy Hungarian goulash. On the way back we stopped even for a moment on the shore of Lake Balaton, one last look at his delight in quiet surface and went slowly home.
