Lower Austria: Experiences of Autumn
Published: 29.9.2019
There are never enough holiday tips, so we bring you inspiration for places that are worth seeing during the autumn, and are also suitable for families with children. In Lower Austria almost everyone find what they like. Don't you believe?
Bobsleigh Ride or A Ride on a Mountain Rack Railway
The Eibl Jet Türnitz bobsleigh track is a great experience for both children and adults. In addition to safe and fast driving, the popular track has wheelchair access and is open in any weather. The resort is located in the middle of enchanting nature.
If you like rocky mountain nature but want to relax with your children, we recommend the Schneebergbahn. It is comfortable and impresses with its design because it resembles a salamander lizard. It will take you through beautiful nature, where you will not escape the eye of the mountain animals and in the Baumgartner intermediate station, do not miss the favorite Schneeberg cakes with plum jam.
The Hochschneeberg terminal is the highest mountain station in Austria at 1797 meters. There is also a cable car to the Rax Mountains, which also has wheelchair access. When you arrive at the Rax plateau, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the majestic Schneeberg.
The Hohe Wand Nature Park and Panoramatic Vista
Hohe Wand is a huge karst plateau located in the Vienna Alps. It has a length of 8 km, a width of 2.5 km and lies at an altitude of 1132 m. In addition to hundreds of climbing and hiking trails, you can enjoy a unique view from the panoramic Skywalk terrace, which protrudes approximately 8 meters behind the rock wall. Fantastic views are also from the 18 meter high observation tower, from which you can even see Lake Neusiedl, Schneeberg and the foothills of the Alps.
Treks to Three Lakes
If you like hiking and are looking for a special place to go with children, we recommend a 3-Seen-Tour. A hike from Lake Lunz to Lake Mittersee up to Obersee and back down takes approximately five hours. The trail runs through the soft Mostviertel meadows. The water-rich route is lined with caves, waterfalls and moving lawns (floating peat moss).
Discover Old Crafts at Castle Schallaburg
At the magnificent Castle Schallaburg you will realize that the modern world would never have been created without the old and new craftsmanship and the skill of our hands. The chateau offers an interactive exhibition that presents unique masterpieces and inventive tools and recalls almost forgotten stories of craft life. During the exhibition you can borrow MediaGuide devices that are available in English, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian.
Trips to See Animals in Lower Austria
All animal lovers will enjoy excursions to see bears, white tigers, river otters and lipizzans. You can start at the Bärenwald Arbesbach, where bears rescued from poor breeding conditions have found a new home. Bears are found in their natural habitat.
Kernhof Zoo is not only home to camels, llamas or coati, but also the so-called White Zoo. This state-of-the-art tiger facility in Europe offers views of the unique beasts, their enclosures and the Tiger Nursery. There are also the only snow leopards in Lower Austria.
If you would like to see a representative of the oldest cultural horse breed in Europe - white stallions of Lipizzaner, you must go to Heldenberg. Their training center is located here. Finally, we will invite you to the rude river otters in Schremse. You can enjoy them in the Visitor Center of the UnterWasserReich Nature Park.
So, have you chosen some trip?
