Lower Autria: The Region of Trek, Food, and Culture Enthusiats

After the restrictions were lifted by the Austrian side, the borders were opened for the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Accommodation facilities returned to normal with our neighbors. In the context of the epidemiological situation in some other European countries and more distant destinations, Austria is becoming an extremely attractive excursion landscape for Slovak and Czech tourists.

Active Relax in Wild Nature

Austria offers much more than the alpine slopes, which we are used to especially in the winter months. Tens of thousands of kilometers of hiking trails intersect Lower Austria - from elegant promenades along the banks of the Danube through adventure trails between vineyards to culinary adventures in the Vienna Woods, a region famous for its spas and beautiful nature.

Hikers can follow in the footsteps of great thinkers and artists from hut to hut in the Vienna Alps, and the more able will often set out to climb the 1,893-meter-high Ötscher peak. Those who like to wander the unspoilt countryside will enjoy themselves in the Thayatal National Park, the most famous Lower Austrian hiking trails rightly include the World Heritage Route Wachau or Via Sacra to the pilgrimage site Mariazell.

Biking Routes for Everyone

Lower Austria is also very popular for cyclists, as you will find extraordinary experiences on more than 4,200 kilometers of biking routes. Both recreational cyclists and full athletes will enjoy it.

The Danube biking route offers romantic views and culinary experiences, but expect it in the Vienna Woods area as well. The routes in the Gölsental, Traisental or Ybbstal valleys lead through untouched nature. The route along the watercourses is a delicacy. Along the way you are accompanied by the roar of water, the original river meadows and picturesque places for swimming without a large number of people.

Fans of e-bikes can look forward to specially designed networks of cycle paths with rental and charging stations, bicycle services and stops with refreshments.

Food and History – Summer of Experience

Much of Lower Austria is a wine region with ancient but still alive traditions associated with delicious grape juice. The Wachau, the Danube valley between Melk and Krems, is precisely for the beautiful vineyards inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This area is the most visited part of the Lower Austrian region, due to boat trips, visits to wine shops, photographs of vineyards, rafting, history and a world-unique monastery.

You can go back in time. E.g. to the museum village of Niedersulz, an open-air museum with ancient courtyards, craftsmen's houses, chapels and an inseparable cellar alley, where you can hardly resist the opportunity to taste wines from the local wine shop.

A visit to the Roman city of Carnuntum leads even deeper into the past, where you will find several renovated buildings, including Roman cuisine and a spa. Gladiator performances also take place here.

During the summer, Lower Austria is more than a holiday program for many visitors, it is an escape from the hot city into nature, a relaxed lifestyle that combines movement with enjoyment and tradition.

At the same time, he can always surprise with something. On the road during your summer stay, you will come across extravagant works of art created by individual artists and civic initiatives in the middle of nature. Enthusiasts will enjoy, for example, the "Wachau nose" by the Danube, the giant yellow wheel in Hetzmannsdorf and the metal sculpture of the ötscher bear.

Lower Austria brings a combination of many great destinations for children. Whether it's relaxation for adults or fun and adventure for children.
