SK, Orava – Hrustin Town: Skiing at Vasilovska Hole
Picturesque Oravian town of Hrustin is located in the middle between Namestov and Dolni Kubin. Our loyal readers truly know it very well.
We have stopped at this interesting Oravian town couple of times. It boasts with interesting architecture, sporting activities, and beautiful nature.
What you can actually do in Hrustin is to be readHERE. There we also attended Hrustinska Prevodovka. This great event has many fans despite its has been existent for a short period of time. It focuses on Off-Road cars and home-made tractors. What we experienced at Hrustinska Prevodovka is described in the article right HERE.
True Slovak hospitability is to be found in the region of Orava
In 2014 during the winter holidays, was the last time we visited this picturesque town surrounded by nature of the Oravska Magura. We accepted invitation by our friends who live there. Last couple of days of the year we spent there with them in Hrustin. If someone says that Slovaks are hospitable and friendly the same applies twice as much for the people in Hrustin, at least those we met during our short vacation. We have never experienced so many warm words, talks in living room with a fireplace, and great fun on slope. There must be certainly a reason for the saying: It is good in Orava, it is healthy Orava. Here Nowhere it is more true than here. Fantastic people and clean mountain air that will give you energy. You can go there even though you should be tired and overworked.
Village hill that will surprise you
At first it seemed that we would have to go to Kubinska Hole near our location if we wanted to enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Fortunately, ,the weather got better. Couple of days prior to our arrival, it had started snowing. Therefore, we decided that we wouldn’t commute anywhere, rather we would try recently opened Ski Zabava Hrustin ski resort that is located in the north of the Oravska Magura at 900 to 1150 meters. It is only 7 kilometers from the town. I have to admit that this “little hill” as we had called it, truly surprised us. One resident told us that it is actually called Vasilovska Hole.
As every major ski resort even this one has a system creating artificial snow, even though there is seldom problem with snow in the region of Orava . Therefore, the resort is in perfect condition for skiing throughout every skiing season. Also, when the temperature goes below zero in the night you can experience there unforgettable spring or winter skiing. The resort has its own skiservis, rental of skiing equipment, or there are ski instructors, and ski school for children. Moreover, there are two ski tows, and a ski tow for children. Waiting lines are almost nil. Great prices stood among the reasons why we enjoyed to ski at Hrustin, despite our initial doubts. Among us were also non-skiers and a dog who resisted to stay at home to help with dinner. We were very pleasantly surprised with the staff at the cool looking cottage that is right at the bottom of the slow. They really took great care of us when we returned from a walk during which we were really freezing. Our smallest dog even got a small bowl with water. Later we gave our four-legged friend some dog food and we began degustation of traditional Slovak and regional delicacies. I am not sure whether it was due to cold and hunger or the food was really so delicious, nevertheless we truly enjoyed it. We had to stay for a while longer to digest that load. Meanwhile “tourists” stayed at the cottage.
Wellness after skiing?
Even though we planned wellness treatment after the dinner, which is a part of this perfect ski resort, we were so tired that we would spend the evening in front of the fireplace and play board games. Next time we go there we will certainly test it. Also, we had read that there is a swimming pool with counter current, Finnish and steam sauna, massages, and jakuzzi.

I am really getting into mountain biking. There was a time I couldn’t even imagine that I would ride across mountain ridges. Even getting across it on foot was difficult. I thought I would give up right below the peak for many times. Today, I am realizing that I might be an enthusiastic mountain biker.
We started our autumn bike trip in unusual town of Oravska Lesna. First break was in the Oravska forest railroad station – Tanecnik. We climbed up the steep hill to a crossroad on the ridge. We continued from there to Sedlo Beskyd station. There we went into the observation platform. Today we go along the ridge one more time to see a beautiful chapel, our last stop.
