SK, Šoporňa: Village Near the Waterworks - VIDEO
Before we start the walk itself, let's talk a bit about the history. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1251, where Šoporňa bears the name Supurni. It was a serf village that was part of the Shintava estate. At the same time, it was also connected to an important long-distance trade route - the so-called Czech-Hungarian route, which only contributed to its development.
In the village and its cadastre there are a large number of sculptural works, such as the statue of St. Florian, the statue of St. John of Nepomuk, the statue of St. Vendelin, two St. A number of traditional adobe houses with a characteristic longitudinal arrangement of rooms, with long courtyards in which several families lived, have been preserved. Let's go in search of these monuments.
On Seredská Street, near the sidewalk near the turn to Gottwaldova Street, there is a God's Passion with a small statue of Pieta. Nearby there is also a statue of the Divine Heart of Jesus, which dates back to 1922, but perhaps the most striking landmark is the classicist Church of Our Lady of the Snows. It is a single-nave building with a polygonal cap of the presbytery. The church is vaulted with Prussian vaults and mezzanines. Behind the gable of the main façade there is a tower with a hipped roof. The interior consists of two other altars in addition to the main altar. On the façade of the church there is a Mission Cross with the years of the missions 2016.
In front of the church, on the right side, there is a Stone Cross with the Crucified. We continue along Šalská Street, where we find the statue of St. Florian on a pedestal, followed by the statue of St. Vendelin from 1892, situated almost behind the village on the road to Šaľu.
The memory of the fallen soldiers is commemorated by two memorials to the World Wars and also by a plaque to the SNP. Another interesting monument is the neo-Gothic Chapel of St. Anne, built in 1750 probably in gratitude for the end of the plague or the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. Also worth a visit is the local cemetery with the Main Cross or the two-storey neoclassical chateau in the local part of Štrkovec.
Thanks to the immediate presence of the Kráľová waterworks, Šoporňa is a popular location not only for sports enthusiasts. There is a sports and relaxation complex built here, water sports, sport fishing and riverside tourism are developing here.
The village of Šoporňa is an excellent place to live, providing residents with excellent civic amenities and a well-developed technical infrastructure. At the same time, from a tourist point of view, it has a lot to offer, so we highly recommend a visit.
