Slovakia: Šoporňa - Relax At Váh River
So, this article could be dedicated for all who did not discovered such place as an interesting and worth seeing resort for spending of leasure time not only during hot summer days, so, we wish to present you a tip, where to start, in the village of Šoporňa, for instance.
The community of Šoporňa is placed along the bank of Váh, the longest Slovakian river. Highway road from Bratislava to Nitra is passing in the neighbourhood. A couple of kilometres after the town of Sereď, the road is bridging over dam lake of Králová water work, and just afterthat, the locality of Šoporňa is to be found along right bank. As far as its name is concerned, the experts refer to Hungarian word-expression of salted wetted soil (so por - means salted dust), whereas the other prefer the expression „šopa“ (a shelter or shed - the same word in Slovak and un Hungarian).
According to historical chronicles, the community belonged to the dominion of near water castle in Šintava. Anyway, its actual contemporaneity and shifting from traditional agriculture to tourist activities were changed by two bilateral joined constructions of 20th century in expressive way. The first one was a dam, mentioned above (its surface exceeds 10 square kilometres) terminated in 1985, as a part of Váh dam system, fulfilling not only energetic or anti-inundation targets but serving also as water reservoir for the irrigation and prospectly as a part of water way, enabling vessel navigation along low flow of Váh-river. As a sequence of this reality, so called speed road came, overbridging this new dam lake close to the community.
Inside the village, we could not find many historical monuments, indeed. So, we wish to recommend you to drive through main road, passing the church and picturesque small St. Anne chapel, and to diverge from the road to the right, passing Relax Inn Hotel. The complex is placed inside meadow forests, in the neighbourhood of ponds and water reservoir. In the surroundings, many pleasant cycling routes around Králová water reservoir could be driven, including use of various water sports in summer. The place is ideal also for fishing and hunting.
