Slovenia: Lake Bohinj and the Nearby Savica Falls

After breakfast we packed our things, for the last time we checked our apartment if we didn’t forget something and the moved by a car to Lake Bohinj. The journey passed really quickly and suddenly we found ourselves on the lake’s shore and were thinking where would we accommodate. I don’t know how it happened, but we were suddenly talking with the Czech who, like us, were travelling in Slovenia. They were about to move to Lake Bled and we planned to spend our last night in Slovenia at Lake Bohinj. We talked for a while and the other couple gave us tip for a cheap, but comfortable, accommodation in a family hotel in the Ukanc settlement. We recommended them an apartment we had lived last few nights.
We were walking for a while and admired the beauties of Lake Bohinj. Since the weather wasn’t particularly pleasant and it was still bit foggy we moved to a small family hotel where we rent a room. A nice lady greeted us and gave us some coffee and tea and also a delicious pie. She showed us our room, borrowed us some travel maps and wished us a pleasant stay. I have to admit Slovenians are one of the kindest people we met since we began our travels across Europe.
Jezero Bohinj
The beauty of Lake Bohijn is hard to describe and, unfortunately, not even photos, not so good because of the bad weather, I added here are sufficient to illustrate the magnificence of the lake. Despite that I recommend you to visit this lake of glacial-tectonic origin. A walk around the lake will take you approximately 4 hours (about 11 kilometers long track). Lake Bohinj lays in 525 meters above the sea level, it is 4.35 kilometers long and 1.25 wide and its deepest point is 45 meters under the surface. Since 1981 it is a part of the Triglav National Park . When the weather is nice the highest peak of Slovenia - Triglav (2864 meters above the sea level) – is visible. But today it remained hidden behind thick clouds. Right by the lake there are two small churches, the St John the Baptist church is not far from the Ribčev laz village. During our walk we discovered, on our left side, even the Holy Spirit church that is probably a great place to take photos when the weather is more pleasant
The Savica Falls
We visited a local restaurant to have a late lunch. The weather improved meanwhile and there was nothing that could prevent us to visit the Savica Falls , one of the greatest tourist attraction in the Lake Bohinj area.
Like it is in cases of other wonders of nature in Slovenia, the entrance to the Savica Falls was feed. Luckily, not even here the fee was too high. From an open wooden house with an office box and a souvenir shop it is about a half an hour of walk to the falls. We traditionally bought a small fridge magnet that decorates our fridge together with others and always reminds us of nice moments in Slovenia. A tourist pathway, also suitable for kids, leads along a moderately ascending forest path with occasional stairs. A price for this easy walk is an amazing view over the 80 meters high falls. Right by the falls there is a small summerhouse that give you the pleasure of look on the land of the Triglav National Park and Lake Bohinj. Despite the fact the summer tourist season was nearing its end there were many tourists. No wonder! The place is beautiful. So if you find yourselves in this part of Slovenia, do not miss a visit of the Savica Falls.
