Do You Know That? New Year's Eve In Japan

Published: 1.1.2012
It is the first day of the New Year, most of us are still sleeping late night fun, violate the first resolution, and to obligate the stove heats soup or traditional New Year's lens. But how people celebrate New Year at the other end of the world?

The other end of the world for us will be Japan, which as we know, is inherently rooted tradition of Christmas as we know, the Europeans. Japan is anything but an admirer of Western and European, which in the land of the rising sun creates a wonderfully motley mix up our Christmas facts and especially those of America. Skew-eyed Santa Claus giving out presents here the sound of traditional German Christmas carols and then the day is like any other working day of Japan Week. At their home people don’t decorate Christmas trees, and even Christmas board is rather the exception, and for the younger generation is all the hype at all unusual uninteresting, because the Japanese is the main day being New Year's Eve. The most important day of the year is then not the first - New Year's Day, when according to tradition, each population of the islands to return to the places where his ancestors lived or where it comes from his family. It carries with it incredible migration of people outside the big cities like Tokyo, Osaka and more. Visit relatives and grandparents in the country is simply a law and duty, but in Japan the world's all kind of natural, joyful and not stressful, usually not as annoying at the time of the visit, if you prefer peace for ourselves.

Japanese household on New Year's thoroughly prepared in terms of decoration, decorations and flowers - this ritual is called kadomacu and it is an arrangement of pine twigs in pots with bamboo trunk. Who would expect challenging party, and who knows what during the celebrations at midnight, waiting would probably be in vain, respectively in Japanese folk tradition that most households still observes, is a major part of New Year events wake-up call and walk into places where it is easy to see the first rays of the rising sun New Year. This tradition is called goraiko. Its share of the overall majestic atmosphere with a hint of mystical Shinto and Buddhist teachings, it has well-defined diet.

As breakfast is served strong and sweet chicken broth soup, into which are dipped rice cakes dip. In addition to preparing meals, which are the basis for long millet noodles, called soba, the excessive length symbolizes long life, exemplary relations and resolutions, which are an integral part of the entry into the New Year. The first day of the year has its magic for children as they come in a decorative envelope symbolic pocket money, a habit is called otoshidama. They play the game well, deserts de dragon - takoage or played a New Year fukuwarai game - when on a blank mask placed successively nose, beard, eyebrows and mouth, all blindfolded, so that the resulting crazy picture served to the general merriment of all onlookers. Adults on the roll of paper write a calligraphy brush your wishes and resolutions for the New Year and it is then hanged at home in a visible place, this custom is called kakizome.

At noon, then served osečirjori, food arranged in a wooden box with many compartments, inside you can find unique delicacies from fish, seafood, rice and sweets. The more bins and more choice, the richer the family.

Japanese system of services is truly admirable, because you can hardly imagine that any family can post on the islands to deliver within a few hours of New Year wishes to the letter, which is read after lunch - a habit called nengadžó and there that if someone came delay. In the afternoon, then goes a short walk to the Buddhist shrine, regardless of whether the person concerned is faithful or not. Celebrating the New Year officially ends in mid-January, when the fire burned kadomacu, which was that bamboo and decorated with pine kakizome - Sheet wishes and resolutions, which they get a more permanent effect. Everything is confirmed by baking rice cakes and sweet potatoes just for this fire - called dontojaku.

As you can see, the other region has a very different manners, unless the Czech New Year's Eve can talk about something as moral or traditional, considering the mess in the streets, noise and sagging television entertainment, not to mention the pyrotechnics and alcohol, with which you weren´t over last night hopefully so that you of all those Japanese ceremonies and tongue-twisting names even more dizzy!

Whether you spent Christmas and New Year however, I wish you to keep yours coming year will be a little calmer and happier than the last one! I look forward to seeing more.
