Do you know that? The Most Ghostly Castle Of The World
So, todays´s rather non-traditional stop will be dedicated to Glamis Scotland Castle, acknowledged as most ghostly castle of the world.
Glamis Castle is situated not far from the village of Angus, in the County of the same name, at east coast of Scotland. This location is very fascinating place, where the beauty as well as surliness of north nature are uniting. The castle itself belongs synonymously to the best temptations of this fertile countryside in littoral plainland, which became famous, first of all, through cattle husbandry of the best Agnus quality level. At present, it is a home of Count and Countness Strathmore-Kinghorne Parentage, residing such place just since 17th century. The castle was, during many years, a native house of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, better known to us as the Queen-Mother. So, this long history of such place as well as countless names could be interesting for historians only. Anyway, we would be more interested for realy magic of such place, ensnared with myths, similar to all ghostly palaces from various films, where, during the nights and within violent storms, somebody could loose his life, as a consequence of terrible death…
As the most famous legend, joined with a castle, it is a certain legend describing „Monster Glamis“. This legend narrates a story about deformed child, born in a family, inhabitating this castle. This child was kept, during all his short life, in castle darkness. The cell and all rooms where the child had to be kept, were walled up after his death, and as it could happen afterthat, his deformed ghost is rambling about the castle up to now.
Anyway, similar story is related to concrete event which happened in 1486. Local owner let to wall up a suit of persons from neighbouring dominion, which asked for long-term asylum, during fights with another Scottish Parentages. However, this primary pretended kindness was changed in a moment into sincere hate from part of local owner. He let to wall up these fighters in a cell, where they were put into danger - without any favour - to rats and worms.
If you have a feeling that this description would be insufficient, so, be informed that we are situated at the beginning of description of these horrors, connected with this place, where phrenetic moanings of victims and involuntary prisoners of this dominion could be heard.
A certain Lady Janet belongs to the other „VIP Ghosts“. She had bad luck that she, as a women, was, with her origin, a member of hated Douglas Parentage. So, James V., the King of Scotland, (kept in prison in past, just by means of this Parentage) let her charged with witchcraft. Shortly afterthat, the procedures followed which could be hardly described in our Sunday article. So, the burning became and end of hardships of beautiful Lady Janet. Now, she is participating at ghostly show, as famous Grey Lady Phantom, during long gloomy nights, occuring mostly in a chapel, where she is praying on kees to God…
A servant - negro boy - belongs to peaceful sort of ghosts. He waited so patiently for the orders and instructions of his master as his print remained on chair (stool) in one castle-room. The servant probably died as a consequence of chill, so, it was possible that he died of certain men disease, ingloriously known as syphilis (pox). Nevertheless, it is obvious that this harmless ghost is sitting there, waiting for a suitable opportunity, blowing his nose gently.
Anyway, as the best fact must be, no doubt, most famous legend, joined with this castle. It is wild card-play, carried out by passionate card-sharper Count Crawford with sevral local aristocrats. The Saturday´s hazard performance lasted after midnight. However, on Sunday (on the Day of Jesus Christ) it is not recommended to play the cards. This fact infuriated hazardous Crawford. So, he challenged even the devil, to play the cards with him, when all those pious persons had no will to continue. And really, he did not waited his devil´s disciple for long time. And immediately, devil´s play started, and insultations or angry crackings on the table could be heard behind closed door. So, one servant was unpatient and watched through key-hole such hell´s performance. However, he immediately lost his sight, and struck to the ground by enraged Crawford. He required emphatically their frightened ex-partners, not to be disturbed during the play. When he returned to the table, the Devil-Satan left, taking with his win, in a form of spirit-obligation of poor Count. When later, after couple of years, the Count died, under strange circumstances, the castle was full of sorrowfull shrieks, swearings and strokes from the place where the play was effected. Even a fact that this room was walled up.did not helped. So, even now, you can hear and see really terrible retorts of such barbarous acts. Or, this could be only a wind and rats, moving inside walls of this old dominion. Who knows?
