The Plitvice Lakes are situated in the Dinaric karst area at altitude of 500–640 meters. These are a group of 16 large and several small karst lakes in cascade arrangement. Over 140 waterfalls links these lakes together. The cascades were created by activity of unique bacteria living in moss and grass. Barriers between the lakes rise up to 3 centimeters each year.

St Davids is less than 2,000 inhabitants, making it the smallest town in the UK. Most of its area is occupied by the Cathedral of St. David and the premises associated with it. This building also helped the city to its unusual status, it is the largest church building in Wales and it houses the remains of St. David, so obviously can not be part of the village, but the city.

We were pondering if winter or early spring are suitable seasons for a stay in Rome. It turned out, it was a great choice. It is off main season, therefore accommodation, and flight tickets are notably cheaper. There are also lesser tourist crowds (yet in Vatican or at the main train station there are still many people there). Moreover, the weather is amazing. It was bit frosty in the morning but as the day goes on, the sun is more powerful. Temparatures then rise up to 18 °C so we wore just sweaters (some even wore T-shirts and shorts).

All are enjoying this calm place. Were there not tombs with Danish names I wouldn’t even notice that I am at a large cemetery. It rather seems the tombs were placed there accidentally.

Izmir (also known as Smyrna) has been settled for five and half millennia. The city is located in Anatolia along the bay which is connected with the Mediterranean Sea. The location of the city mean it had experienced rule of many civilizations and empires. The last of them, the Ottoman Empire, conquered Izmir in 1389, in the time when it still was a part of the decaying Byzantine Empire.

For a while we leave Central Europe, we move to the Irish Sea, the home of the Isle of Man. Its coat of arms is rather interesting as it shows three armed legs in the shape of triskelion. It is an ancient symbol that appeared in many cultures that don’t exist today. Yet today, you might see it at Sicily’s flag.
