El Cañón del Sumidero, as we know it today, began to be created about 70 million years ago by tectonic movements known as Horts-Graben. The village of Zavar is located 8 km from Trnava, on the eastern edge of the Trnava loess board. The first written mention dates from 1255. In the village there are many sacred monuments and interesting objects from history. The most attractive ones certainly include the Classicist chateau, the new church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary from 1907 and the birth house of the composer Gejza Dusík.
