Austria: Bike Events Calendar in Salzburg

The most important date every bike fan should note in his/her calendar. Lets look at them one by one.

Amadé Bikemarathon, Taurean classic starts this year for the 20th time in Radstadt, Salzburg, on May 26th . Competitors compete with other bikers on a track situated in magical world of mountains. There are two types of tracks to choose. It is whether the 166 kilometer long with 2497 meters of elevation, or the 114 kilometer track with a 1850 meters of elevation. www.radmarathon.com

Two weeks later hundreds of bikers compete on a 27 kilometer long alpine road to Großglockner. They have to overcome 1694 meters of elevation, the elevation is up to 12%. Important event in the region is the King of Glockner, „Glocknerkönig“  it will take place on Sunday June 9th, 2013. www.glocknerkonig.com

Another important sporting event in Salzburg sport calendar is the Out of Bounds in Saalfelden Leogang. In the extended weekend June 20th to 23rd will be great for all sports fan. The top of the top of freeride and downhill will show off here. Fans of fast rides and professional tricks will enjoy the Dirt Jump Contest 26TRIX or the IX European Downhill Cup. www.outofbounds.at

The International Austrian Circle will take place at the end of June and the beginning of July in the picturesque lands of St. Johann-Alpendorf. Already for the 65th time a royal phase will take place from eastern Tyrolia through Großlockner to St. Johann-Alpendorf, Salzburg. This event will take place from June 30th to July 7th , it includes eight stages with overall length of 1200 kilometers. www.österreich-rundfahrt.at

The Red Bull X-Alps is one of the world’s most thrilling adventure competitions, it will take place on July 7th . Bold riders have to overcome the Alps only on paraglide wearing running shoes. The goal of this “unofficial world championship” is to fly over the Alpine circuit from Salzburg to Monaco and return back. Athletes from various countries have to overcome 1000 kilometers in air and also by their own feet. Start of this event will happen in the historical center of the Old Town in Salzburg, milestones are Gaisberg, Dachstein a Wildkogel. On behalf of the 10th anniversary, 32 athletes were chosen for the Red Bull X-Alps 2013. www.redbullxalps.com

The Bike Infection, an interesting event, will take place on August 16th and 17th in Zell am See-Kaprun, a popular tourist resort. Fans of biking may experience here 2 days of action and thrill in events such as the XC-Battle, Adrenalin or MTB Freestyle Night. Endurance, good nerves are required for the Kitzsteinhorn SnowClimb, the Kaprun Festival promises great finish of this competition. www.mountainbike-kaprun.com

Swimming in Zeller See on 1,9 kilometers, 90 kilometers ride on bike and 21,1 kilometer run. These are disciplines of another hard competitionthe „Ironman 70,3“, which will take place on September 1st in the regions of Zell am See-Kaprun, Bruck, Maishofen and Piesendorf. The name is derived from the overall track length, 113 kilometers (70,3 miles). Competitors come, except Austria and Germany from 54 other countries such as Andorra, Australia, Mexico, Venezuela or New Zealand. www.ironmansalzburg.com

Already for the seventh time the town of Eugendorf and the bike legend Eddy Merckx on September 8th they invite you on the largest bikemarathon in Salzburg. 1500 bikers visit internationally established competition the Eddy Merckx Classic every year. Three different tracks go through Salzburg, a land of lakes. Eddy Merckx, a patron of the bikemarathon stands on the start with his team and one of the greatest bikers. After the UCI Mountainbike 2012 world championship takes place in Saalfelden Leogang, Salzburg, from September 19th to 22nd, it is the Downhill world cup finale and 4X world championship . In a downhill cup called the Formula 1 of biking only the best bikers will compete. During a downhill to the valley they can reach almost 70 kilometers per hour. Biking fans will enjoy this summer. Salzburg is a diverse recreation area, there are many sporting events whether it is tourism, mountaineering, swimming in crystal clear lakes, golf, tennis… There are so many options, just try it!
