Austria, Zell am See – Magical Region in Salzburg
Published: 26.1.2020
Today we have a trip to the Austrian state of Salzburg, more precisely to the breathtaking Zell am See region, which is famous for ski resorts, beautiful lakes, picturesque villages or majestic mountains.
Our starting point for excursions will be the village at the foot of the legendary Grossglockner - Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße. From here you can explore the beauties of the Fusch and Rauris valleys, Kaprun and Saalbach.
We head to the Fusch valley and set out on the Grossglockner mountain route, which connects the village of Bruck with the Carinthian Heiligenblut. The scenic route leads through mountain pastures with herds of cattle, offering views of the snow-capped alpine peaks and the typical mountain-style architecture of the houses. During your trip, you can stop at several alpine huts, where you can also enjoy homemade specialties. During winter, the valley turns into a ski paradise, while in summer it is a popular place for more demanding hiking.
If you are not a proficient hiker, but like a new experience, we recommend a trip to the village of Saalbach-Hinterglemm, which has a leading ski resort with extensive slopes and a wide range of services. Nature lovers will appreciate the visit of Krimml waterfalls with a total height of 380 meters. For lovers of history, there are the Kaprun Castle and the Saalhof (Pinzgau region) or the narrow-gauge Pinzgauer Lokalbahn.
Our feet took us to Kaprun, which, in addition to the famous Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, Austria's second largest spa complex, the Tauern Spa, and the Wasserfallboden and Mooserboden, offers the beautiful Sigmund-Thun-Klamm gorge. It is a 320-meter-long route that is accessible to tourists on a wooden trail. It offers magnificent views of the gurgling river Kapruner Ach, which flows between huge rock walls.
The Zell am See region offers much more, but as you should rather see it, we recommend planning a trip here. Experience this natural and cultural wealth firsthand.

The "Stage of the World" (Die Bühne der Welt) nickname is meant to show that the most impressive thing that can be experienced in the world of music is happening here. And maybe it's not just about music, the beautiful and historic city of Salzburg would have survived without a Mozart cult that has been set up for decades.

Winter season in this year is, however, too mild, and not too favourable for skiing. You have to look for the snow and skiing possibilities abroad where the conditions for your activities are more favouirable as in Czech Republic.
This time, you travel to Hintertux skiing centre, 550 kms distant, on border of Austria and Italy.
