Cyprus – Land Devoted to Aphrodite I
The winter vacation was long gone. The summer vacation, on the other hand, seemed to be close. Accidentally we noted a special offer to Paphos . A city in the northwest of the island. We hadn’t hesitated for a second.
Paphos is a port. It has an important role in Greek mythology. Once it even was island’s capital. There are many archeological excavation sites, catacombs and strongholds. There are couple of museums to visit and get yourselves immersed into island’s history. Its historical sights helped Paphos to make it into UNESCO’s list.
Only couple of kilometers from the city center is an international airport. It is very pleasant for tourist because it is easy to reach. Paphos is one of the most beautiful and most popular resorts on Cyprus. Its history is interesting, it has rocky coastline, fabulous sand beaches, fruit plantations and its villages hold to their traditional culture.
Moderate subtropical climate makes the weather around the city pleasant for better part of the year. The greatest attraction here are beaches, obviously. However, the best time to take a swim is in the summer. Right in the city is Pachyammos beach where handicapped people can swim. The most beautiful beach around the city is Coral beach . There are luxurious hotels and restaurants. People love also Yeroskipou beach, which is great for families with children. The bedrock slowly descends into the sea there.
Places which are must see once you are in Paphos are – Petra tou Romiou beach, Royal tombs, the ruins of the temple of Aphrodite and an archeological site. There are one of the most beautiful mosaics in this site. All this you can find in the area.
Petra tou Romiou beach is a wonderful place. No wonder it is a setting of the legend of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. The legend says Aphrodite was born of sea foam here on this beach. It is a beautiful place where you can stay for long hours, relaxing and enjoying its atmosphere.
Make sure to join us on our trip to other Cypriot sights next Sunday.
