CZ, Plzen – European Capital of Culture II.
Very interesting place is the Memorial to the American Army , the only museum dedicated to American Army in the Czech Republic . It covers the time when the US Army stayed in Czechoslovakia in 1945. Also there are parts on the totalitarian era. We would recommend you to visit Techmania Science Center suitable for kids and teenagers. Fascinating interactive exhibitions, exhibition shows, examples of high tech laboratories, fascinating 3D and 2D planetarium with a dome of 14 meters in diameter. You will be thinking of it for a long time.
The Museum of Dolls (puppets) is also worth a visit. Puppet manufacture has had long tradition in Plzen. What adds to it is that the famous puppets Spejbl and Hurvínek by Josef Skupa were made there. The Museum of Ghosts, Fairy Tales, and Legend is also attractive. It offers insight and humorous look to the history of the city and surrounding. You wil see there ghosts, and mysterious creatures. Those who love fauna, animals, and adventure should see the Plzen ZOO, botanical garden, or Dinopark. Should you try to find relax, visit the Garden of Meditation in the south corner of the city. It was built by L. Hruska,a former political prisoner, to remember victims of evil.
You can explore Plzen by walk, car, or public transport, or even bike. But what about horse? In the city center, on the occasion of prestigious awards, the so called live tours are performed. Those are performed and you can have a ride in horse-pulled carriage. To see some of medieval history, go to see Radyne Castle which is main landmark in the region of Plzen. It offers a 360 vista to the surrounding landscape. Even the rotund of St Peter and Paul is worth visiting. It is the oldest building in west Bohemia. Another option is to see Kozel, a Classicist-style chateau with beautiful park or Baroque Nebilovy Chateau that has rich interior decorated with flower ornaments.
Plan your Plzen trip to attend to one of traditional events . For instance, music festival such as – Smetana’s Days, Metal Fest, Jazz without Borders, Finale Plzen (a film festival), International Biennale of Drawing. Or visit open-air events – Celebrating Freedom, Majáles, Lively Street, Advent. Or theatre performances - Biennale of Puppet Theaters Skupova Plzen, International Festival Divadlo. Or see cooking fests - Apetit Festival, Sun in the Glass, or Pilsner Fest.
This is not all at all. Soon, Plzen will host more than 600 events. You wont get bored in this city. Be sure of that.
