CZ, Usti nad Orlici: The Town of Weavers and Baroque – VIDEO

Published: 24.5.2023
At the confluence of the Ticha Orlice and Trebovka, right on the main railway line from Prague to the east of the Czech Republic, you will find a beautiful town of Usti nad Orlici. Its main feature is a Baroque square with arcades and a unique railway station.

Usti nad Orlici is located in eastern Bohemia at the foothills of the Orlicke Mountains. The local region belongs to one of the most picturesque ones in the country. So if you go out to admire its beautiful places, you may be just passing through Usti nad Orlici and we recommend that you stop there for at least a while. You can even use many long-distance trains that travel here from Prague and continue to the northern and central Moravia.

If you get off at the main train station, note original timbered railway station, which fits perfectly into the architectural style of the Orlicko region. Today it does not serve its original purpose anymore. Yet you will find a café there. In 2010, it was declared a cultural monument, which saved it from demolition as part of the reconstruction of the railway corridor.

The Assumption of the Virgin Mary church

The oldest part of the city is located around Mirove Square, which is dominated by arcaded Baroque houses. Nearby you can also find the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from the end of the 18th century. It is worth mentioning the majestic Baroque deanery building, which stands right next to the church.

There are several local villas, such as Henrych's villa, an Art Nouveau villa the original owner of which owned an important textile factory in the town of Usti. Near the city center is also the unique building of Roskotovo Theater founded by the famous functionalist architect Kamil Roskot.

If you are more attracted to nature, go to Andrle's Chlum hill, where from the lookout tower, with the poetic name of Silver Beauty, opens a beautiful view of the surrounding wilderness. Alternatively, make a biking tour across Ticha Orlice valley.

You may remember that the Kadaň embankment is named after Maxips Fík, in Pilsen the streets have figures from Quick Arrows and several towns and villages did not resist recessive ideas and paid tribute to Jár Cimrman. But the central square named after a literary figure has only the charming East Bohemian Dobruška: F. L. Věka Square and then the town of Trutnov - Krakonoš Square.
