Italy, Finale Ligure – To Town and Up Ferrata

But even without a bike, nobody will be bored here. In and around the city is full of monuments, opportunities for hiking and beautiful turquoise sea with sandy beaches and a nice promenade. From the campsites we can recommend Finale Freeride Outdoor Village, which, although located beyond the city, has a nice and well equipped facilities with a beautiful pool and free WiFi connection.
Finale Ligure is also within driving distance of the French Cote d'Azur, where we definitely recommend visiting Nice, Cannes or visiting Monaco for a walk through the rich Monte Carlo. Finale Ligure consists of three parts - Finalmarina, which is the seaside part, Finalpia is the center and Finalborgo, which lies in the inland part between two streams. However, it also contains its historical medieval part.
What can you visit in Finale Ligure? Castel Gavone from 1181 is located in the hills outside the town. Directly above Finalborg rises the Spanish fortress - Castel San Giovanni, which dates from the 17th century. It can be reached by a pleasant trail from Castel Gavone and then continue to the old center of Finalborg.
Not far from the promenade is a beautiful Basilica of St. John the Baptist with two bell towers dating back to 1762. A few steps from the basilica is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, which is already linked to the promenade. There are plenty of restaurants and ice cream parlors with beautiful seating. The square is dominated by an arch dedicated to the Queen of Spain Margaret Maria Theresa of Habsburg. Pleasant is also a walk along the promenade, you will find plenty of restaurants and cafes, paid and public beaches and small parks, which provide shelter from the hot summer sun, and smaller attractions for children.
Although it is a city beach, the sea is clear and often there are larger waves. The water temperature is pleasant and within a few steps you are already deep. The only thing missing here is the offer of any water sports and activities.
A few kilometers from Finale Ligure is also a great ferrata - Via Ferrata degli Artisti. It offers magnificent views of the Ligurian coast and opposite peaks. Difficulty is B / C and has very well done handles. The route also includes a 40-meter suspension bridge. Not far from the ferrata is a parking lot with an information sign, but less than a kilometer ahead, the original asphalt road turns into an ordinary road with many stones and bumps and is not entirely suitable for cars with lower chassis. From the parking lot the road is quite well marked. Ferrata is definitely worth it, do not miss it.
