Italy, Sardinia – Stintino and Unique La Pelosa Beach

Published: 8.9.2022
Traveling in the off-season has significant positives. One of them is that the number of tourists has been reduced to a minimum, so you can be completely alone on some beaches. We did it too. Let's take a look today at the northwest of the island, which offers beautiful beaches, diverse nature and true tranquility.

přístav ve Stintinu

We are staying in Stintin. This fishing resort is within easy reach of the famous La Pelosa beach. It is said to be the most visited beach on the island. And we have to say that there will be something to it. We did not find another beach where there would be more people. It is no longer easy to find a place for your bath towel before noon.

But the beach is unique in that you have to follow some rather strict rules. From this year, a maximum of 1,500 people are allowed here every day, in order to avoid overcrowding on the beach and to protect the sand that lies here, it is necessary to make an online reservation in advance. Upon arrival to pay a 3.5 euro fee per person, you will receive a bracelet on your hand, of course you will also pay a parking fee, which is around the euro per hour. You must also bring your own pad under the towel. When you leave the beach, wash the sand from your feet. I really recommend following these rules, as they control them and there is a large fine for violating them. So this beach does not have the real charm because of all the commands.

A great alternative is to visit the beaches in the area, such as Le Saline or Ezzi Mannu. We were completely alone on these beaches, there is no entrance fee or parking fee. However, if you stop enjoying lounging on the beach and swimming in the sea, move east for about an hour, here is the picturesque town of Castelsardo, rising on the rocks.

It is dominated by a medieval castle and the walls offer breathtaking views of the surroundings and the island of Asinara itself. Admission to the castle is 2.5 euros. The center is interwoven with narrow cobbled streets, souvenir shops or renowned restaurants. Important sights include the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Cathedral of San Antonio Abate with its colorful Aragonese bell tower. And an even smaller tip at the end. Not far from the town, it is possible to admire Roccia dell'Elefante, an elephant-shaped lava formation by the road.

If I were to compare this corner of the island with other parts of Sardinia, I can say that it is completely different from the south, east or north. And that is exactly what is so interesting on this island and what will soon attract me here again.

If there is a place in Sardinia where it will feel completely small, it is the Su Gorropu canyon. The rock sides of the gorge rise to a height of 500 meters, making it the deepest gorge in Europe.
