Italy, Sicily – San Vito Lo Capo and Scala dei Turchi

Published: 16.1.2021
San Vito Lo Capo is located on a narrow promontory of the northwestern part of the island. And for many people, it meets all the conditions for a great day. It is located about 55 km from Palermo and is adjacent to the Zingaro Nature Reserve. This place offers beautiful white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and magnificent views of the Monte Monaco mountains.

This small seaside town is also great for fun, various events take place here and it is quite alive on the beach. We go for a walk along the harbor and enjoy the sea and city views. But then we set off for the Scala dei Turchi.

On the map, the Scala dei Turchi looks like a white irregular triangle. It is a magical place and the locals call it a miracle hovering between heaven and earth. This rocky massif extends into the sea along the coast of Realmonte. As we approach here, our breath is held. A white rock wall that resembles an ice floe. The place is really beautiful.

We walk through the gate and after a few steps we walk to the stairs, which we go down to the beach. We continue along the beach until we reach the large white triangle. We are surprised that there are stairs on this rock and that you can climb them. This natural formation was named after the Arab pirates, whom the locals called simply "Turks". The pirates used the cliff, which provided them with a safe lee, to moor their ships, and then set out from there to plunder the surrounding area. At present, this place is no longer plundered by pirates, but bursts at the seams under the rush of tourists who enjoy the view of the sea and wander on the rock. It is very pleasant to the touch and thanks to nature, such dimples resembling armchairs were created here.

A few minutes later we descend from the rock again. We paddle the sea and watch the traders on the beach, who offer everything from straw hats to inflatable toys to food.

We get in the car and return to the airport. Along the way, we talk about unusual experiences and such a beautiful place that is worth a visit.
