Should you try to find some tips for trips, Lower Austria offers many. You can cool yourself on a boat ride on the largest underground lake in Europe. Or you can travel in time in a nostalgia express. People who love animals and nature can observe their life under water in Unterwasserrreich natural park, or they can watch bears of Arbesbach. And this is hardly everything you can do there.
Our journey begins at Hinterbrühl cave that holds the largest underground lake in Europe. This sight hides in 60 meters underground the largest underground lake in Europe. The lake covers an area of 6 200 m2. During the WWII, this was the place where the first jet propelled fighter (HE 162) was made. It is a unique labyrinth of corridors which concludes by a romantic lake ride. Magical game of light and colorful reflection of water surface will leave you with amazing impression.
If you are an adventurer, then we recommend you to take a time travel ride by Reblau Express . It connects Weinviertel wine town of Retz with Drosendorf, Waldviertel. You can get off at some of the 11 train stations. From each of them you can take a bus or go by bike or just walk. Wine makers are creators of fantastic foods in a special train carriage remade to a small pub. You can transport your bike for free.
When you enjoy bot rides then you should take a nostalgia trip to Wachau, a world culture heritage site. The Danube here has its most beautiful part. The 36-kilometer Wachau valley stretches between Melk and Krems. Through here you can sail on boat. The vistas out from the Danube are magnificent. You will see castles, monumental cloisters, magical vineayards, or peach orchards. The main board is suitable for wheelchair users, inside is a non-smoking zone, and the cuisine in the boat offers fresh delicacies of the region. Children can take a short captain course.
You can rest, for instance, at the Roman thermal spa , Baden. There you can use 900 m2 of pools, or a compound with saunas. The largest glassed roof in Europe is what covers the spa. Inside, there is 35.3 °C spring with high containment of sulfur.
People who love nature shouldn’t miss a trip to Unterwasserreich park. There is an exhibition about underwater life. Visitors are introduced to its features and water life like microorganisms, plankton, fish or amphibians. Around are marshlands and wetlands . Their fauna and flora is amazing and lures tourists in Waldviertel area. You can observe frog, snake, dragonfly or fish in their natural environment. Or you can watch feeding of otlers Arthur and Mike.
At the very end, we can recommend you a trek to Bärenwald, Arbesbach. It is one of the three places where you can see the brown bear. It lived at private breeders or in circus. It was however moved to nature which is more appropriate to its needs. These bears live on an area of 1.3 hectares. These water-loving creatures bath and play in some ponds. Unlike bears in zoos, these wild bears must take care of their food on their own.
